I FINALLY figured out how to watch my Misfits DVDS on my laptop. (You install DiVXK player and then install through firefox. Also figured out which file to watch first.) So far looks pretty good. Also an aside - Misfits reminds me of shows made for US cable and premium cable - where you can curse a mean-streak and be a bit edgy, with a grittier production value and darker story. If the US did a version of this series? It really should be Showtime or HBO, the broadcast networks would sterilize it. Have only seen 20 minutes so far - because you know bed.

I love it when I solve a puzzle. Whee!!

I'm so glad, you got them to run! :)

You're right in that something like misfits would have to run on cable in the US. I still hope they don't make yet another remake.

It's a bit crude for the FCC censors to handle. Although US humor is actually cruder and less witty - see the film "The Hangover" as an example. I find this actually hilarious in places:

"the probation officer is driving around with two stiffs in her trunk...thought you should know." (LOL!)

The US definitely has done stuff like this on tv, just not on broadcast network tv. FCC (Federal Communications Commission) won't permit full frontal nudity, partial frontal nudity for women (breasts) or foul language (fuck, cunt, etc) on television.
If a network messes up and allows it in a show, without bleeping it or deleting it, the FCC will fine the network quite a bit of money and advertisers will scamper. So they really can't. Cable tv which is subscriber dictated and not "free" or "public" can more or less do whatever it wants. Depends on the funding source in the US - if we (the viewer) doesn't have to pay for it? It falls under FCC guidelines and is censored for "decency". If we do have to pay for it - anything goes. Which is the reason I pay for cable.

Not sure where it's filmed though. Doesn't look like London. Maybe Manchester? Feels industrial.

Seen three four episodes so far...including the controversial one where Anontia uses/abuses her power to turn guys on and reaps the consequences. It feel incredibly sexist in places, but much like Mad Men - I'm guessing this is actually deliberate and not oblivious? It feels deliberate - as if they are examining the topic from a new angle.

I still hope they don't make yet another remake.

Agreed. It's one thing to copy a format and provide a brand new twist or take on it - such as Law and ORder UK, or Coupling (based on Friends), The Office, or even Life on Mars (US and UK versions)...but to copy it almost exactly, with just a few name changes, like they did with Being Human and Skins?

Shows like Buffy and Doctor Who resist remakes due to their iconic cultural status - they are too visible, the mass media has in a way declared them untouchable. You can reboot them, sure, but not "remake" them.

And thank you again for sending them to me!!

It really is crude in places, especially when Nathan is involved. It's also a big part of it's charm in my mind and of what the show is about.
Because you have all this crudeness on hand but then you have a lot of genuine emotion on the other. There is definitely sexism, but like on mad men the women are real relatable characters.

I think Alisha's power remains a very useless thing that becomes rather pointless after a while, but fortunately the writers picked up on that in time and brought on some changes.

I think it's a bit weird, the remake thing. I enjoy QaF US and it's lovely that it's so much longer but most of the time the remakes just make roll my eyes. I never made it past the first ep of Life on Mars US and I don't think I'll look into Being Human. I'm just too much into the originals and the remakes tend to feel like fanfic. Only fanfic that goes tamer instead of wilder than the actual show.

And thank you again for sending them to me!!

I'm very glad they are running for you now and it's no biggy, I'd do a lot more to have another person to talk Misfits with me.:)
