Whoa, True Blood S4 is going to be good. First episode was sort of fun, and the preview for the season is rather interesting. Bill and Eric are switching places, Bill gets to be the asshole, although he always was. As an aside - why do people get turned on by male/female pairings, where the male is tall dark and an ass? You know, the guy is this older guy, who is all - "I want what is best for you, but I own you, and I'm going to lie to you to protect you? But hey, groove to my broody, addictive soul?" This trope seems to be wildly popular in pop-culture - we have Buffy/Angel, Sookie/Bill, Stefan/Elena, Bella/Edward...and I'm sure there are others. Personally I find it mildly vomit inducing, but to each their own - I'm guessing it's my own personal experience with the trope in my twenties (I dated and crushed on a lot of these arrogant assholes who were all tall dark brooding addictive and controlling...and thought they were all that.) Now, I prefer talkative and vulnerable blonds, with a wry sense of humor. In short 19 year old me would have been all over Bill, 44 year old me - prefers Lafayette, Jason and Eric. Sam...he's still a little on the creepy side.

Fav character is still by a wide margin Tara. Personally I think the writer prefers Tara and Lafayette to the other characters.

Interesting tatic to have it all in Sook's point of view - that only 15 minutes maybe an hour passed for Sookie, while an entire year passed for everyone else. And slowly we find out what happened.

* Bill (apparently) killed Queen Sophie and took over as King of Louisana? (ETC: I'm assuming she's dead because Bill is now in charge, Sophie is no where in sight, and last we saw they were about to kill each other. Talk about not following up on your cliff-hangers.)

*Eric is still Sheriff (?? - but now under Bill?? that must be going well?) and still owns Fantasia, but Bill has more power than Eric. But Eric didn't give up on Sookie.

*Interestingly enough both woke up when Sookie reappeared with Grand-daddy.

*Damn, Gary Cole had a short part - he lasted 15 minutes. Can we bring him back from the dead? Please?
And bring him back edgy - I love edgy Gary Cole.

*Jason has become a full-fledged Deputy and Andy's partner.

*AIK - a dummy corporation has bought Sookie's house and made improvements. Portia is hunting them down. But they reveal themselves, as I expected. (I kept thinking, it's probably just Eric who bought it. It's totally something he would do. And sure enough it's Eric. Although I'm with Sookie - I couldn't tell if that last scene was a dream or not. Also if Eric owns the house now - what's keeping Bill from entering it or anything else for that matter? Also how exactly does that mean Eric owns Sookie? It's just a house - if I were the Sookester - I'd say good riddance and hunt new digs. This by the way was in the books.)

* Those witches have found some powerful mojo - in the form of Lafayette. The whole coven thing was hilarious. Plus there's a spy - Bill's. I have a feeling this is going to back-fire on Bill.

* Sam's anger management group turn out to be a bunch of shifters - but instead of turning into dogs, they turn into horses - which by the way - is a far cooler animal, just saying. I keep waiting for the Were-Tiger to show up. I just can't see Ball passing that one up. Maybe next season? It really wasn't until the fourth book that he made an appearance.

* Where'd Alcide go? If I were the Sookester - I'd dump the vamps and go after Alcide, although I admittedly think Eric is more interesting and attractive. Also, let's face it - I don't care who the Sookester ends up with - as long as it's not Bill - because the air really does get sucked out of the room when they are in it - boy are they dull together. What is it with pop fans and boring couples?
(EW's top couples included Bill and Sookie, Buffy and Angel (who both became dull by the third season - you can only keep that going so long before it becomes predictable and redundant), - I sort of understood the others, but to be honest, not that much.)

*Tara rocks. Although I'm admittedly not into the whole lesbian sex thing...rather watch two men having sex than two women - spend all my time envying the women's bodies, but it is nice to have a lesbian couple on this series with Lafayette being the male homosexual on the series - and for a while, I figured Tara was bi or lesbian, totally see that. Can't say this sex scene was sex-exposition or exploitive like Game of Thrones...was filmed differently. Love the fact that Tara is kick-boxer in a relationship with a fellow kick-boxer.

*Tommy is unfortunately still present - damn, Sam didn't kill him. But he did apparently wound him pretty severely and Hoyt's Mom appears to have taken him in as her new project. At least I think that's Hoyt's mom.

*Speaking of Hoyt - he has his hands full with Teenage Vampire Jessica, who Bill has been completely neglectful of his duties regarding.

According to the previews - Bill tries to give Eric the true death - I hope not. I'd rather they kill Bill off. Of all the characters - he is the most annoying. It's the accent. When he doesn't talk, it's all good. Although - will state - he was hot in the scene in which it was revealed that he's the new king of Lousiana.

* Jason has his hands full with the Werepanthers - according to the previews - it appears they want to turn Jason into one of them. He becomes one in the books - but in a far less frightening manner.
Ball is nastier and more innovative than Harris. Jason is still hot and adorable, even with the gross goatee.

First episode of this season - a lot better than first episode of last season, apparently True Blood is a bit like Dexter, an every other season affair. Some stronger than others. Dexter was much the same way - S1 good, S2 - so-so, S3 okay, S4 - rocked.

As an aside? I want that song they sung at the end or rather that version of the Beatles song they sung at the end. Anyone know who did it? [Answered in the comments below - thank you!] It wasn't the Beatles, even though the Beatles definitely wrote it (ETA:I'm clearly confusing the Beatles with the Zombies - I don't know why.] I have the Beatles version (maybe that's why?). True Blood has the best soundtrack - is it out anywhere?
[Also answered in the comments - thank you!! Although prefer itunes to Amazon, it's cheaper and easier to download from.]
