Posting in a fit of giggles, actually I think I may have hurt myself. LJ is hilarious today.

* Jaws Redux - Summarizing this just doesn't do it justice. Hilarious post.

* Apparently the Doctor Who fandom has its panties all in a twist over...you guessed it! The length of Amy's skirt. Amy is the Doctor's new companion and her skirt, dear reader, happens to be far too short. The Doctor Who fandom has apparently been reading too many Victorian writers and is beginning to sound a bit like the Victorians...either that or they are just a wee bit on the prudish side or possibly batty, maybe even a little bit of all three? Seriously? I wore short skirts when I was Amy's age. WTF?

* "Muslins are responsible for people no longer trick-or-treating on Halloween." (Granted, I'm pretty sure this was a typo, (I certainly can see myself making this mistake - been there done that, but what a beautiful typo!). I really hope it's not a typo - because the idea that people don't want to trick or treat because of a fear of "Muslin" (fabric) or the need to wear Muslin.. or the dreaded Muslin! Is just well perfect...besides it makes about as much logical sense as the alternative - "Muslims are responsible".)

Muslin (English pronunciation: /ˈmʌslɨn/, or less frequently: (/ˈmjuːsɨn/) is a loosely-woven cotton fabric originated in India, which was introduced to Europe from the Middle East in the 17th century. It became very popular at the end of the 18th century in France. Muslin is most typically an unbleached or white cloth, produced from carded cotton yarn. It is often used to make sewing patterns, such as for clothing, curtains, or upholstery. Because air moves easily through muslin, muslin clothing is suitable for hot, dry climates.

[Actually people don't trick-or-treat because of a series of urban legends that scared the pants off of them starting way back in the 80s - with the razor in the apple. People are so gullible - they'll believe anything - if it is from a slightly reputable source, such as a newspaper columnist or anchor person. But let's not quibble, it's all the muslin's fault.]

It's not like the companions in the '70s ever wore short skirts . . . oh, wait. *eyeroll* If I had Karen Gillan's legs? You can believe I'd wear skirts that short every chance I got.

Me too. Well, also the comfort level - wearing short skirts on the subway has always been a dicey situation, but I'd do it in a minute on the Tardis.

Well muslin is a very tricky fabric.... LOL

When I was little I always went trick or treating w/either an older sibling or parent tagging along behind, and in many neighborhoods across the country that is still the case:
No one went trick or treating in Pacifica, CA, but most of my neighbors were 1st generation Americans (or immigrants) who probably didn't 'get' it. But near my friends' house in San Francisco they had two blocks shut off to traffic, decorated their homes in a Harry Potter theme, and they attracted thousands of kids from all over San Francisco (I loved going and helping to hand out candy there!).

I think people just like to generalize based on their own theories of what is wrong w/our country (which is of course my generalization of what is wrong with these theorizers! LOL).

Same here. In NYC - some people go door to door, some do parties...what people tend to do is just go to the decorated houses where it's clear that candy will be given and ignore the one's that aren't. But it is a city.

Depends on the neighborhood.

People are wonky. My Aunts were a trip, generalizing right and left about everything.

Not only that, but the groups I heard about objecting to celebrating Hallowe'en were Christians, on the basis that it's a pagan holiday!

Bloody light, filmy fabric. Spoiling it for everyone.

I know, and it's see-through...too. People are pratically naked under it.
