After the flurry of activity this week, and the increasing stress (in part work related), lack of sleep and a touch of food poisoning on Thursday...which is not quite, but almost out of my system, I'm ready to crash. Feel exhausted. Good thing I can't go anywhere. Got quite the workout at 8am this morning - walked five blocks to the hardware store, picked up masking tape (spent ten-fifteen minutes trying to figure out if I should buy blue masking tape or regular tape), walked six blocks to the Rite Aid and got bags, a magazine, and tissues. Walked another five blocks to discount store - where I ran into a couple from Portland, Oregon visiting their daughter, they were buying tape too, I was buying containers (which are almost impossible to find, Momster forgets I live in a city not the suburbs - with a big Home Depot or Costco). Then back five blocks to pick up yet another gallon of water, cereal, and lots of drinks. (I have five jugs of water in my bathroom to flush the toilet with. Been advised by the Momster to fill bathtube and sinks tonight with water before going to bed. And fill zip-lock bags with water and put them in the freezer. Kidbro accused the Momster of watching too much television. LOL! He's on a side of a mountain up in Beacon, all he has to worry about is his place out on Fire Island - which he co-owns.) And lugged the whole thing ten blocks to my apartment, and up three flights up the steps. (I might lose weight - getting quite the workout, just shopping.)

Got the masking tape - and taped the windows in my living room/kitchen area. Bedroom will do tonight. Doubt much will happen to the windows - since it really takes 85mph-100mph winds to shatter windows. Then again...they are predicting 90-100 mph wind gusts, so maybe doing all the taping is a really good idea. It's also more an issue if you are above the 10th floor. People at work, who seem to be experts on this sort of thing, told me to use masking tape and tape huge crosses on my windows, and take a small square of cardboard and tape it to the center of each window. I'll let you know what happens.

Con Ed is threatening to shut off the power for lower Manhattan. I hope that doesn't extend to Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. They are worried about the salt water seeping into the power grid.

The problem? Regardless of whether it's a category 1 or tropical storm...we will have high tides when the strongest storm surge happens, plus a new moon, which means the tide cycle is in the worst possible spot and at its highest for the month. NYC Battery City Park and Lower Manhattan below Canal (basically Wall Street and Lower Tribeca) is only 3 feet above sea level, and the storm surge has a possibility of 8ft. On top of this...we are getting sustained torrential rains for 10 or more hours. Which means a prediction of up to 15 inches of rain in a less than 8 hour period.

What's closed?

* All Mass Transit is suspended as of 12 noon today. And since it takes at least 8 hours to reboot it, it's not going to be running until Tuesday. Damn. By all Mass Transit - I mean Subway, Bus, and Trains. (Momster told kidbro this and he said, "you're kidding me.")

* All airports close at noon today.

* NJ is suspended transit as of noon.

* Amtrak is suspending service up through the NE corridor.

* Conneticut and NJ has stated no cabs permitted on street after 8pm tonight.

* All NYC Beaches are closed.

Everything is canceled, Broadway shows, Concerts, Baseball Games, etc.

*NYC is turning 25,000 corner trash baskets upside down. And to stay away from them. (Have decided not to take out the recycling and put it in the trash bins - it will just end up in the street. Our garbage is already stacked up downstairs. And the people in the first floor apartment have done zip about it. I'd do something - but I can't. So have decided not to worry about it. Right about now, I sort of envy people who live in Co-ops with superintendents, maintenance, and generators.)

The streets are quite. Everything is quiet.

Hmmm...the photos of Kill Devil Hill in NC look pretty good. With any luck they are over-reacting to this. Which is history making in of itself.

To say the City is in a panic, is an understatement. But for good reason - all the weather satellite data shows that it is really hugging the coast all the way up the line.

It does seem to be dissipating, the worst of it may be this anticipation of it (at least I hope so). I hope you can relax and enjoy your DVR this afternoon because the storm does seem to be taking it's sweet time going up the coast.

Try to get some rest, I really think you have done everything possible to prepare!

Well, at least everything is prepared so there'll be as little damage as possible.
