From an email I received from Netflix this morning:

It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.

This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster.

While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.

We're constantly improving our streaming selection. We've recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we've added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS.

We value you as a member, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get your movies & TV shows.

Respectfully,

Netflix

I almost feel sorry for them - except that they have a bit of an monopoly on the DVD by mail/streaming biz model. And they've driven Blockbuster almost out of business (which was not a bad thing - I did not like Blockbuster). There are still a few Video Stores around though - saw two the other day. They aren't Blockbuster though. Our Blockbuster video store became a grocery store finally.

Yeah I think Blockbuster did a lot to kill themselves off (everyone I know who used them for local video rental grew to hate dealing with them). I actually switched to Blockbuster for a short time and found that they had plenty of copies of brand new US blockbuster releases, but that is all they had... they couldn't get a British TV show no matter how long you waited.

On the other hand Netflix has every UK release, lots of foreign films, and pretty much everything you would have trouble getting at a local video store. But Netflix is charging more for less now days (their streaming selection sucks). It is getting awfully easy for me to find what I want online....

It is hard to keep a business model going now days when everything changes so fast.

Does Netflix have a monopoly? My dad uses something called Redbox or something close to that. Also we still have both of our movie rental places and one of them is a Blockbuster. I haven't been there in years since I had a job interview there lol. I haven't had the need.
