Why is it that all suspense/horror tv shows, with a few exceptions, like to put their lead characters in jeopardy constantly? Teasing the audience that they will die, when we know perfectly well that there is no way in hell that will happen and if it does, the character will be brought back in some way?

Currently watching Fringe (season 2) and have myself thinking the same thing I was thinking during Vamp Diaries and Buffy,
oh come on, we know you aren't going to kill Olivia, stop teasing me, show! And if you do - you'll bring her back in some way, I mean come on.

TV shows really don't know how to do death well, unless they are serials...and even then it's sketchy.

I don't know, but this ALWAYS bothers me. I mean, the actual fun is seeing how characters get out of seemingly impossible situations, of course, but I get annoyed when there is too much time spent on how ~omg they're about to die.~ No, no they aren't. I prefer it when shows spend the bare amount of time possible on the ~OMG they're going to die~ part, and focus more on the clever or badass ways they get out of the situation.

(This is part of why I enjoy Game of Thrones/ASOIAF so much. Because even though there are some characters I think are pretty untouchable, at least until the last book, I'm not SURE in the same way I am with most shows and hell, even book series.).
