This is a longish, spur of the moment, kitchen sink poll regarding things I'm curious about people on lj. In short, I want to know more about the people reading my posts, and what interests them. Because sometimes you just feel like you're sending messages out into a void. I'm sure there are better questions to ask...but I'm tired and brain is soggy.

Oh - the tv shows listed are the one's I actually watch. I don't watch Breaking Bad, and I ran out of room or I would have listed Walking Dead. So if I didn't list yours? That's probably why. There's only so much room.

Going to bed now, because that's probably a good idea. Hope people answer this...always worry about doing polls. That's the thing about this medium, you never know what people will respond to. It's not really predictable and there's no discernible pattern.

[Poll #1792123]

Note: I can't edit poll. Or if I can, I've no idea how. So if there be mistakes? Mucho apologies. [ETA: ACK! I already found three mistakes. Oh well. Really shouldn't do this late at night, well late for me at any rate...I get up at 6.]

I watch sports sometimes and am randomly enthusiastic.

I like what I've seen of Whedon's. I think the trick now is to pick reallyreally carefully. lol This way I can remain a fan.

Very wise.

It's also best to avoid reading/listening to every interview you can find (cast, writer, etc) and whedonesque posts. There's such a thing as TMI (too much information) and the internet is not always our friend in this regard. I learned this lesson the hard way. ;-)

Hee. I also watch sports sometimes. I actually watched the Super-bowl where the Giants won. And I watched the Royals win the World Series back in 1985.
But it's a rare thing.

I watch sports occasionally, though not the usual ones. I watch track and soccer on TV.

The only times I've lived abroad were study abroad and I wasn't sure that counted... so I didn't. And I never learned to speak Italian so much as learned how to read a menu, order in a restaurant, or ask for directions and (maybe) understand the answer.

I didn't count the study abroad either. Only two months...so not long enough.
But a year or two, yes.

I very occasionally watch sports, usually during the finals of things, and find them moderately entertaining. Also there is the Olympics...

My favorite shows are usually multi-genre and tend to have absurd humor involved somehow. Those puppies are rare these days. Dramedies, I guess. Everybody is so serious all the time. Also, I like to be surprised and made to think about society and stuff, so sports don't really hit that, while SciFi can, but doesn't always.

Also, I said I speak multiple languages, but I only really feel fluent in one. ;-)

I think the Olympics are different...they tend to be more events. I watch those too. ;-)

I considered putting multi-genre or combos, but figured people could just check every box and combine them in their heads (that's how I answered it at any rate). Prefer dramedy as well...but it's not really a genre or trope and all of the above fit in it.

Also, I like to be surprised and made to think about society and stuff, so sports don't really hit that, while SciFi can, but doesn't always.

This. Yes. Exactly. I think this is why I don't like procedurals and sports that much - no surprises. I know what will happen next in most cases. I like to be surprised and made to think about things...but not preached to. Even if I agree.

Living in Arizona I've picked up some Spanish by osmosis, but it's on the level of individual words more than knowing how to string them together...

I had lived in 5 different states by the time I was 5...
I've been a resident of ten different states in total (I've visited 49 of the 50)....
I would actually love to live in a different country (except for my inability to learn any other language...)!

I will be interested in seeing all the various responses you get.

The responses are rather interesting and reminds me that I can't generalize.
Also..gives me an idea of what to and not to post on.;-)

I misread the question about countries and states I've lived in. It's three for me.

I'm losing patience with sports, but I still watch sometimes.

I can read several more languages than I can speak.

Do you live close to family? By close - within at least one hour, maybe two

My brother-in-law and his family moved to the next town over about two years ago... before that, the closest family members were [livejournal.com profile] rackham's aunt and uncle who lived an hour and a half away.

How many countries or states have you lived in?

I had to go back in and change my answer... I'd originally said one until I realized that you'd included states as well as countries. If my sleep-deprived brain is doing the math correctly, I've lived in seven states and one territory.

How many languages do you speak?

I used to speak German, but it's been so long that I've gottento the point where I can understand it if people speak slowly enough, but I can't speak it myself. Rackham and I have been considering doing something like Rosetta Stone or Mango to pick it up again... especially since there's a LOT of Geocaching in Germany!

TV Shows that you want to read meta, reviews, or posts on.

I probably should have checked everything, because I often enjoy reading things about shows I don't actually watch.

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

I answered Other. I was raised an only child, but my mom got remarried when I was 18 and I picked up two step-sisters and a step-brother (all younger than me). We're actually fairly close, although I don't think it's quite the same as if we'd grown up together.

Whedon fan?

I answered "Used to be" but that's not entirely true... I'm more in the "Willing to be convinced he really is a genius" category (in other words, I used to think he was wonderful... have sort of soured on him lately, but could change my mind again).

Are you still reading the Buffy Comics or Angel Comics?

Sort of. I'm kinda reading over other peoples's shoulders. I wait until other people have read the comics first and then read their copies if they say it's worth it. This is getting harder and harder as more and more people seem to be dropping the comics.

I've studied multiple languages and used to have passable skill in Spanish and Hebrew - but these have atrophied to the point of near non-existence. I put 1.

Have lived in Maryland, California and Michigan.

Serials appeared on your list twice. Missing from your list was Comedy, which is really my favorite TV genre.

Yeah, I screwed up on the genre trope. Made three mistakes, that I caught after I'd already posted the thing.

Comedy I don't really consider a trope or genre - that's why it and drama were left out. All of those items can be drama or comedy.

For languages? I interpreted it as ability to understand the language, but it's admittedly not clear. I'm not sure I should put two - I can read French, but I can't speak or legitimately write in it.

Parks and Recreation, Community, Person of Interest and Prime Suspect make up my TV roster right now. It's... rather full, honestly, considering I'm still trying to catch up on Fringe. (Currently behind by more than a season.)

Don't care a bit about comics, whether Whedon's or Marvel or whatever. Though I am quite fond of movies made from comics, and the comics characters.

(If it had been an option, I would have picked 2.5 for languages.)
