shadowkatDamn, Vamp Diaries was frigging good tonight! It rocked. Next to Sunday nights, my second favorite night of tv is Thurs.
We're told by Stefan at the beginning that someone's humanity will foul it up, it always does. And it won't be him. Of course - ironically, it is Stefan and Katherine's humanity that fouls up the plan and what does it is their mutual love for Damon. Katherine pretending to be Elena is told by Klaus that if anything happens to him, his hybrids are compelled to tear Damon apart and there's millions of them. Katherine goes to Stefan and tells him that he needs to care about Damon or Damon is dead. Stefan saves Damon's life, without Damon knowing. It's so ironic...Katherine tells Stefan that humanity is their greatest weakness. He says she cares about no one but herself, she says that he knows that's not true, she loves him and she loves Damon. And she proves it in this episode. It's a roller-coaster ride, filled with twists and turns that work and are fun. TV is at its best when it's fun...
Did not see these plot twists coming:
1. Elena Stake Rebekha in the back
2. Katherine takes Elena's place.
3. Damon is set up to kill Klaus
4. Stefan betrays Damon and takes the stake and kills Michael instead (damn, I liked Michael!)
5. Katherine put Stefan up to it - when she found out that Klause had set things up for the hybrids to take out Damon if he is killed. So Katherine went and revived Stefan, and told him if he wanted to save Damon's life he had to kill Michael and save Klaus who would free him from the compulsion.
6. Why? She loved the old Stefan better, the humanity in him. And she loves Damon too. Now she needs him to get really angry...
7.Damon believing Stefan betrayed them, thinks he's lost Stefan forever. Elena says they will survive this. If they can't get Stefan back, they need to just let him go. Damon isn't sure he can.
8. Stefan calls Klaus and lets him know that he has his entire family and if he doesn't behave, he won't see them ever again.
LOL!. Show...you've gone from gooey romance to true family ties and bro-romance. I love you.
And the dialogue, pacing, characterization was fun. You watch Vamp Diaries...and you realize why shows like Ringer, True Blood, and Glee just don't quite work. It's about the characters! And the pacing! Always.

I know, they really do an amazing job and now we have to wait until January 5 "sobs".
I'm going to miss Mikael as well, unless he comes back as a ghost or a flashback. On the other hand, maybe Stefan will release Elijah and the rest of the family.

And she...well saves Damon's life at the end of last season. The character has been drawn as fairly complex. Also it's established that she cares about her past family. I think, she does have a thing about self-preservation. Also, she may have realized that if the hybrids were let loose on Damon they may have torn her apart as well - Klaus stated all their friends.
Her strategy makes sense - save Damon, kill the all-powerful Mikal who could kill her with a snap, get Stefan out of town, convince him to go after Klaus so that Klaus's focus is on Stefan NOT her, get as far out of town herself as possible...see what happens. Sort of the lesser of two evils sort of thing.
Win:Win.
