1. What’s your favorite time of day to read? On the subway on the way home from work. Or in bed. Night owl. Can't focus in the morning, tend to fall asleep. Which makes getting up at 6 am painful.

2. Do you read during breakfast? (Assuming you eat breakfast.) -

No. And of course I eat breakfast. How do people skip breakfast and not faint? I would faint or get a really bad head-ache. Low blood sugar. Inherited from the Momster. I eat gluten free cereal, berries and soy milk, every morning. Damn, how can people skip breakfast and not faint or get sick on the train?

3. What’s your favorite breakfast food?

An feta cheese omelet with bacon on the side and a gluten free english muffin with mixed berry jam. OR gluten-free cereal with berries and soymilk.

4. How many hours a day would you say you read?
I read for work. And read online. And read books. So... let's see 5 hours, maybe more.

5. Do you read more or less now than you did, say, 10 years ago?

Read more for work (technical stuff - like engineering proposals, blueprints, work emails, etc) and a lot of online stuff. Less personal fictional work. Although have been averaging about 10 -20 books a year. I'm a person who always has a book in her hand.

6. Do you consider yourself a speed reader?

Depends on the book. I actually can read quite fast. But for pleasure reading? I've been known take a long time. George RR Martin books take six months. But engineering specifications - I can read fairly quickly, same with blogs, most pleasure reading. Depends.

7. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Am I doing the wrong meme? It would be teleportation. I hate traveling. If I could just teleport to and from locations, life would be wonderful. Wouldn't mind flying either. OR telekinesis. (Don't give me telepathy - that would be hellish.)

8. Do you carry a book with you everywhere you go? Yes. Kindel's are lovely things. You can carry over 83 books at one time. It's amazing. I love e-readers!!!

9. What KIND of book?

I have 83 books on my Kindle. Right now, Young Adult, Mystery, Fantasy, Non-Fiction, Erotica, Romance, Historical, Sci-Fi, Horror, Fanfic....

10. How old were you when you got your first library card?

I honestly have no idea. If I were to guess? 7 or 8. Maybe 6.

11. What’s the oldest book you have in your collection?

I don't know. I honestly have no idea.

12. Do you read in bed? All the time.

13. Do you write in your books?

Yes. I'm hard on books. I've been known to underline, highlight, write notes. This is why I don't use the library and love the Kindle - the Kindle prevents me from doing this.

14. If you had one piece of advice to a new reader, what would it be?

Enjoy your books but don't only read the easy stuff, be curious, daring and brave, go outside of your comfort zone. Reading is an adventure and it's worth the effort.

Also...be open-minded. Take off the blinders. Don't stick to one genre. Don't listen to others, make up your own mind. Ignore your teachers - they tend to be pendantic and snobby.
Ignore your parents - they want validation.

Explore. Try. Jump into another's mind, particularly one that is very different from your own.

15. If someone asked you for a book recommendation, what is the FIRST book you’d think to recommend (without extra thought)?

John Green's The Fault in Our Stars. People? Seriously. Read this book. Now. Don't wait. It is the best thing I've read in five years. So, it's a young adult book. And a best-seller. Trust me. It's amazing. You can thank me later.

After reading about it from you and [livejournal.com profile] green_maia I have that in my reserve list and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive.
