shadowkat: (Tv shows)

Finished watching True Blood which continues to be vaguely amusing, it's so over the top. I did however enjoy it quite a bit. Rather funny in places and intriguing in others.

* Go TARA!!! She continues to be my favorite character and an awesome vampire. I knew she'd be pissed with Lafayette and Sookie for turning her into a vampire. And it was hilarious watching them trying to figure out how to deal with this crazed vamp.

* The whole Authority vs. Bill/Eric thing is ironic. Bill/Eric are of course against eating humans and pro-mainstreaming. But they also hate the Authority, which has been idiotic to date. Rock - hard place. Poor Norah or is that Laura? Did not last long. The whole Lilith bit was silly. But the torture techniques were inspired. What annoys me about tv though is that it keeps pushing the point that torture is an effective means of obtaining truth. It's not. When you are tortured, you'll say anything after a bit.
Torture is sadistic and cruel with no point. But people keep justifying its use in fiction. Granted it's realistic, we use it. But I wish they demonstrated how it did not work. Here - they sort of do, but not in the way I was hoping.

* Loved the peeks into Pam's back story. I'm a huge Pam/Eric shipper. I love Pam and I love how Deborah Van Stratten portrays her. The Pam/Eric romance makes sense. Sookie/Eric doesn't. Actually why men fall for Sookie..once they get past her rack, is beyond me.
Pam as a cynical prostitute who gets saved from a Jack the Ripper sort by Eric was sort of interesting and unexpected. I can't remember what her back story was in the books. But I don't think it was that. Pam was less developed in the books.

*We got less of the gross Sam storyline this week and he walked out on Luna. Although I have to say I was sort of agreeing with Luna. Not sure I'd let my daughter near crazy sadomasochistic cannibal Granny, either. Although eating the dead ritual is part of many religions.

*Call me crazy but I don't trust Terry's friend (the Sgt). I think he may be the one burning everyone. And he's tricking Terry into finding the guy who he can't find.

*Alicide's story is more annoying than Sam's. Didn't that would be possible and please don't tell me that next week we are supposed to care what happened to Debbie Pelt?

*Jason Stackhouse's subplot is a bit slow. But better than Sam and Alicide.
And I found Jessica and Rev Newlin sort of amusing. I keep wondering if Newlin may be
one of Russell Edington's followers? Most likely not.

* Is it me or does Dennis O'Hare play a lot of burned monsters on tv? He's certainly good at looking gruesome as Russel.

Not that I usually watch the show but I was bored last night and watched an episode of "The Borgias" and they didn't. They had Cesare and his torturer, torture the crap out of a guy who never, ever gave in to the point that Cesare ended up just signing the guys confession himself. He never did break the guy (though he did have hbim executed.)

Actually that's what happens in True Blood. They don't tell anyone anything.

I didn't write that very clearly in my post above. What I meant to convey is it doesn't matter if the person says anything or not...you can't tell if its true with torture. If you torture them long enough...they'll tell whatever you want to hear to survive, regardless of whether it is the truth. Torture is not a good way of getting information.

I was highly amused when Lafayette buttoned up his collar before going into the kitchen.

My favorite exchange was between Sookie and Lafayette, while Tara crouched like a tiger ready to spring just after she wrecked the kitchen.

Sookie: Grab her.
Lafayette: How?

LOL!
