Tomorrow around 2:45 or thereabouts - I'm off to the beach. Rustic Davis Park on Fire Island, where kid bro owns a beach house that he had built out there. Parents are up visiting.

There is no internet access. So I will be off line. Which is a good thing. I need to get away from the computer.

Taking Monday off. Wish I could take more time. I desperately need a breather from work.
It's making me crazy. As you've no doubt surmised from my posts of the last six months.

Off to make something for dinner. And maybe more wine. Work has driven me back to drinking.
Damn. Need to start swimming instead. Probably sleep better.

Oh I'm jealous... I love a beach house! I usually bring a suitcase full of paperbacks, but I'm guessing you'll bring your kindle? And I always would get a disposable water-proof camera (because they float in the water! LOL).

I hope you have a really fun and relaxing time!

I was just visiting my brother & niece in the Chicago area last week and we never stopped talking.

Thanks! Bit nervous about it...although less so now, but I also drank two glasses of wine, so there's that...

but I'm guessing you'll bring your kindle?

Have Kindle, will travel. Lovely things. I have 117 books on it at the moment, all genres. Still binging on romance novels...so will probably read another. Best thing about the Kindle? No one can see what you are reading. And the print is larger than it is in paperbacks, so easier to read. Plus no dust or mold. So no sneezing.

I'm also bringing my EW mag - with the article on Doctor Who and cult TV. Amongst other things. (This is how I keep track of pop culture.)

Now, my turn to be envious. (It's his beach house not mine, which actually has it's pluses...considering I don't have to maintain it. Just visit. This is the first time I've been - usually they rent it out most of the summer.)

With my brother...I'll be lucky if we have a twenty minute conversation. Normally it's 5 minutes, with lots of insanely awkward silences. I've even been known to stop in the middle of a sentence and he won't notice.

Niece is a bit young - 8. And shy. But adorable, of course. She ironically reminds me a lot of me.

My brother and I have an awkward relationship.

But it is a beach house. I can take off and sit on a dune and read. Much nicer than his house in the mountains. Plus cooler.

I'll probably use my ipod touch or ipad to take photos. That's what I normally do.

I've felt very lucky all my life because I've always been close to my big brother... he would read to me when I was really little... and let me chase down his baseballs when he would do batting practice (hey, most of my friend's brothers wouldn't tolerate their little sisters hanging around at all).
My niece is 31 now and is actually supporting herself (barely) with her band and art work... I'm pretty impressed with her.

But 8 years old can be a fun age... do you have any kid friendly DVDs (Buffy Season 1 might interest her!)? She might be interested in some of your old books or comics which are more kid friendly... because that is an age when she can begin to understand things that a little more subtle. You might enjoy taking her to see 'Brave' (made to appeal to little girls with an independent/adventurous streak).

Anyway I hope you have an awesome time... oh I know! Bring some painting supplies and let your niece join you if she wants, painting together is a nice way to quietly enjoy each other's company.
