A bit of good news via NY1...NY has convinced the President of US to ask Congress for 60.4 Billion in relief. (17 Billion -housing relief , 11.5 Billion federal disaster relief, 9 Billion transit repair, 4 Billion army corps of engineers , 9 Billion for federal flood insurance , 1 Billion for small business loans). The money will be split between NY, NJ and CT, with NY getting the lion's share. But it might be held up by Congress who is fighting against a fiscal cliff and a Republican Congress who prefers to spend on War and Defense, and less on boring domestic issues such as disaster relief, education, etc. So it's mixed. (Eh, the news frustrates me, it's been shut off.)

So attempted to watch fluff, but it was incredibly frustrating fluff...spent most of my time yelling at the tv or rather arguing with it. Oh well, at least we now understand the sire bond as it relates to vampirism in Vamp Diaries.

* So if Stefan and Damon were so madly in love with Katherine before she sired them, why aren't they bonded to Katherine? Did the bond transfer to Elena or something? Or does it just work on women? If so...how sexist.

* Good witchcraft is called magic, but black witchcraft is called expression? What is this a commentary on "expressionism" as it relates to art? Oh well, at lease...we now know that Atticus Shane is evil. Whether he is more evil than Klaus has yet to be determined. (Yes, the writers are a bit witty with the names, aren't they?)

* 12 human souls have to be sacrificed to get to the power at the heart of "expression" according to Nandi, the New Orleans witch. So...what would 12 unsired hybrids do exactly?
Does Atticus plan on sacrificing them to get to this power with the help of Bonnie?

* How hypocritical can Caroline be? (Bonnie at least has an excuse, she doesn't know Atticus Shane is evil and leading her down the dark path. Caroline? You know Klaus is evil.
Yet you flirt shamelessly with him anyway and get all your info from him.) Oh well, at least Caroline got to be the damsel this week as opposed to Elena...but not to worry, Elena offered herself in Caroline's place, while Tyler played hero. Caroline you've been spending too much time with Stefan, it's making you incredibly self-righteous and judgmental. Methinks an intervention is in order. This is not a good friendship for you.

*Stefan were you always this self-righteous, manipulative and hypocritical? Or was that Lexie's effect on you? Why Damon wants to be around you, I've no clue. I'd have left ages ago. There's got to be better traveling companions. I don't know..the whole brotherly bond bit...is overrated. Also, Damon, seriously, Charlotte? I thought you had better taste. Vamp Diaries is not doing a good job this season with the guest-casting.

* How many times do these types of shows have to do the whole..."I'm so bad for you, so I'm going to do the incredibly self-less and painful act, and leave you forever" bit? Note to writers...lazy sexist writing. Stop doing it. At least on True Blood, Sookie broke it off. Yes, it's odd, but so far Sookie has a far more feminist storyline than Elena.

Sigh. I should have watched Vamp Diaries last night and Big Bang Theory tonight. Oh well.

How does one break a bond for dumb supernatural soap operas?

I also didn't watch TVD until tonight.

Stefan is working my last nerve. Seriously, he's being an incredibly manipulative, controlling, self-righteous, sexist jerk.

Seems we had similar reactions...;-) (Big Bang Theory was so much better, so was Glee for that matter...which is saying something.)

I wanted to strangle Stefan last night, and his cheer-leading squad.

ie: Stefan's blond enablers/cheer-leading squad, Lexie in the past (who was far more interesting in S1) and Caroline in the present (who they are writing horribly this season). That's the problem Stefan has - he has his own personal cheer-leading squad. Every time he questions himself, some nitwit tells him how great or right or selfless he is.

This doesn't change soon, I'm giving up on Vamp Diaries...

As an aside - the last comment was mine, but stupid lj posted it as anonymous for some reason? So I had to re-sign in, delete it, and repost.
Very weird.

Well, we're not the only ones unhappy with the current storyline. EW reported a 21% drop in viewing so maybe the writers will snap out of it and after the Christmas break get back to more sensible storylines. Now that would be a Christmas present.

Oh good. Agreed.

They really do need to move away from the Oppressive Love Triangle of Doom storyline, which has taken over the tv show and not to its benefit.
It's sucking the life from the series.

But I'm not sure how the writers can write themselves out of the corner that they have written themselves into on this on. Right now - Elena will "literally" do anything Damon says and agree with him on practically anything - because she cares so intensely for him that she wants to make him happy. And the only way to allegedly break it - is for Damon to break her heart and leave her forever? Which basically means he has to leave the show, or she does? (I'm rooting for her to leave the series at the moment, they can bring back Katherine - she was a lot more fun and a much better match for Stefan.) Or, they can make her human again and hit the reset button...
Neither option quite works.

What we need is more Jeremy (who actually is rather interesting this season and has a storyline) and more Klaus. As well as a bit more on the whole Atticus Shane/Bonnie bit, which appears to be happening mainly off-screen.
Far too much focus on Elena/Stefan/Damon/Caroline/Tyler/Hilary.

From this week's episode...I have a feeling that Atticus plans on raising the dead. Either as zombies or ghosts. (He told Hilary that she would see her parents again...and with an insane gleam in his eye...which leads me to believe zombies. Also this fits with what April's dad told the council - this isn't death, this is a new beginning, we'll come back stronger than before...The cure could well be bringing the "dead" back to life, which Klaus misread as a cure for vampirism, or it is one in a weird way - ie. brings dead back to life.) That could be an interesting thread...they need to get back to it and put Damon et al back on the investigator track.

How hypocritical can Caroline be?

In Caroline's defense, Damon did spend several months brainwashing and raping her. So she's got some small grounds for holding a grudge against him.

Unlike Klaus who spent several months trying to kill Tyler, manipulating everyone, raping Elena, almost killed Caroline, made Stefan go all ripper and raped others...but hey, what's the difference? Also Damon did save Caroline and Tyler from Klaus.

Definition of hypocrite? Dating an evil dude who tortured your friends while whining about your friends doing the same.

I know Damon did all those things. But he's no worse than Ripper Stefan,
or Klaus.

Word to the wise? You really don't want to fight with me over Vamp Diaries today - work was hell. And I was woken up at 4am in the morning with the heaters blasting - it spiked for no reason.

Let me despise Caroline and Stefan right now...they aren't real. ;-)

Go ahead. Almost everyone on this show is literally a monster. The show sometimes needs viewers to forget about their more unsavory actions in order to get us to care about their various romantic travails.

Its a testimony to the skill of the production that we can still watch, even knowing that almost every character can be viewed as hateable by large portions of the audience at any given time. Even the ostensible leads.

Yep. It's supernatural soap opera, by definition all the characters do nasty things. That's what happens in supernatural soap operas...sort of goes with the territory. (See True Blood).

Actually soap operas in general are like this. The writers tend to go for the hyperbole. It's not enough for the guy to kill someone - he has to have killed 20 people. But oh hey, it's quite all right, he wasn't himself at the time.

So in supernatural soaps? I go by how entertaining the characters are.
I mean, I figure they've all done nasty things, right? So judging which nasty thing is the worst depends on your pov and what hits your buttons so to speak.

I really see no difference between Damon and Stefan's violent crimes.
Both have raped, plundered, and ruthlessly killed people. Flip a coin.

But Damon seems to be more honest about it, Stefan lies and blames everyone else. Oh, it's the bloodlust. Oh, it's being a vampire. Oh, it's Klaus who made me do it. And he's incredibly whiny and self-righteous and sexist. Not to mention patronizing. Plus - damn, the boy has no sense of humor. He takes himself far too seriously.
Damon on the other hand has a sense of humor, plus some of the best lines. And he's not as self-righteous and full of himself. For the record? I currently like Klaus better than Stefan. He also has a sense of humor.

Ponderous, self-righteous, hypocritical, whiny, patronising characters with no sense of humor and take themselves far too seriously...I can do without. Snarky, humorous, self-deprecating characters who refuse to take themselves too seriously make me laugh and are fun.

In a supernatural soap opera...which, let's face it is impossible to take too seriously any how...fun is important!

But Mileage Varies...I know a lot of people on my flist like long-suffering heroes with guilt complex/aka the patronizing martyr syndrom. They annoy the hell out of me though.

Here is the thing - without anything like Buffy or Pushing Daisies to interest me - I adore the fact that Vampire Diaries can make me laugh out loud or gasp in surprise almost every week. I stopped expecting anything else and it makes it so very enjoyable. I advise this course of action cause trying to make it into anything else is kind of hopeless!

True. Doing much the same thing myself. Stefan and Caroline are just grating on my ever last nerve at the moment...but spoilers advise me this will not last forever...ah soap operas, at least they change.
