Eh, it's a cold ...sunny day with snow on the ground. Not much. Maybe a half-an inch, possibly less. And I feel less than motivated to go out in it. Lacking in the motivation department this month. All I want to do is curl up with a cup of hot tea or coco, eat chocolates (which I've thankfully run out of) and read or watch tv. Maybe write a bit.

In short, I want to hibernate like a bear in my little cave. I did sleep in - until 9 am, which is late for me, considering I get up at 6 am every morning. Anything earlier will kill me. I do not know how my co-workers do it. (Possibly they go to bed a lot earlier than 11pm?)
[As an aside does this happen to anyone else? You are typing along, exactly what is in your head and you go back to read it - and discover that instead of typing "done" you typed "down"
and instead of typing "bed" you typed "be". Not always just in weird places. Now the be vs. bed I can understand. But what's up with the down instead of done?? The mind, it boggles.]

Am resisting the urge to marathon my new DVD Once Upon a Time S1. Will most likely get tempted to get S2 as well, when it comes out. They are actually fairly cheap considering. $24 on Amazon. Not bad. Considering I've seen DVD's priced at $69. (Which I don't buy).

Watched Glee - the first episode since the fall, and it...well, sucked beans is unfortunately an understatement.

Admittedly the last three - four episodes of this show didn't quite work. Their handling of Marley's eating disorder is borderline offensive. And the writers still don't seem to know how to handle or write female characters in a manner that doesn't feel suspiciously misogynistic or sexist or down-right grating? Also they seem to have no understanding of emotional characters arcs. This is admittedly a long-running issue with Ryan Murphy/Brad Falchuck. They don't do long-serials well. It's as if they get bored half-way through with their characters, and think okay what shocking outlandish thing can we do with the characters next? Also, who else can we offend and how badly?

I wish they'd stay away from romantic relationships, particularly heterosexual ones, they do not seem to know how to build or write them well.

Biggest problems?
1. Tina - out of nowhere Tina has developed a crush on blatantly gay, Blane. Who in turn has developed a crush on Sam. Wait didn't they already do this storyline? Yes, they did - with Mercedes, Kurt and Sam. Mercedes had a crush on Kurt, and Kurt had a crush on Sam.
Now the writers for some absurd reason have decided to repeat the same storyline with Tina, Blane and Sam - except this time Tina and Sam are acting like crazy people and Blane is just insanely clueless. At least the first round made sense, this version feels like an absurd attempt at a parody of the original version.

2. Marley - Marley for some absurd reason is friends with the nasty Quinn wannabee, whose name I keep forgetting. Quinn-wannabee is portrayed by an actress who neither has the warmth or talent of the actress who played Quinn, and has a voice that feels like nails on a chalkboard. Every time she pops up on screen - I feel an overwhelming urge to a)turn down the volume, and b) smack her. Nasty Quinn Wannabee has decided to turn Marely into a bulimic. Now Marely fainted at the sectionals and was hospitalized, then her story was dropped and never discussed again. Ryder - the guy she was dating for a bit, has no story at the moment. And she has a thing for Puck's brother, who appears to still be interested in Quinn Wannabee. To disuade Quinn Wannabee from his brother, Puck has showed up to romance her instead? Ugh.

3. Rachel - now that Rachel has gotten all this attention, she can focus on her new man of the moment - and gets upset when he doesn't cater to her needs. He's late for dinner and she throws a hissy fit then invites him to move in - without consulting Kurt, her roommate.
She also tells Kurt not to join the dumb show-choir, because that's a bad idea at a performing arts college - which he finally got accepted to (mainly because the writers didn't know what else to do with him.)

This story is going nowhere, except in a circle. But hey lots of pretty outdoor footage of mid-town Manhattan. No wonder everyone thinks NYC looks like Central Park, Rockerfeller Center, 5th Avenue and Times Square - with everyone taking taxis every where - that's all you see on these shows. Although at least Rachel and Kurt live in Bushwick Brooklyn and they do comment on the subways. Kudos for that.

4. Finn in Mr. Shuster's role, doesn't quite work. It's hard to take it seriously. He just graduated and has no college degree, no experience, nothing. Now if he were Shuster's intern or unpaid teaching assistant, while attending a teaching program at the University of Ohio, that I'd buy. But no...he's teaching the extracurricular activity, and has no other job or duty.

I may give up on the show soon. Admittedly only been watching for the musical numbers at this point, and those are getting worse and worse as we go forward. Shame, the first five episodes of the season, okay first four - up to and including the Grease episode showed so much promise, now it seems to have gone down the tubes, which to be fair has happened every season.

Actually my problem is that I read it over and over and 'see' "done" every time I read it. Then a couple hours after it's been posted, I get back online and it's "down."

Actually...that happens to me too. I'll re-read, proof, etc...and it is still down. It's so annoying.

Doesn't happen at work as much - possibly because I print stuff off and review them, and have to be more precise. Here - I don't print anything off.

I do that all the time (type a different word than I meant to type), I think it comes from my thoughts racing ahead of my fingers... but who knows? And like [livejournal.com profile] cactuswatcher I don't catch it on reread.... probably because I'm skimming the reread....
*sigh*
on the bright side, usually your reader can guess what word was meant.

I agree 100% about 'Glee'... I've been fast forwarding through most of the story lines and a lot of the songs. It makes watching the show off my DVR a pretty fast process.... Occasionally I'll slow down and watch, thinking: 'really? where are the good writers?!'
I do think this show will be lucky to last another season on it's current trajectory.

In fact I've already gotten rid of my only 'Glee' icon (always a bad sign that I've lost interest)

Yes, this happens to me too. It's actually worse when you get your stuff rec'd and nominated for online lj awards...and go back and suddenly, there they are, all the typos in living color. And you think, damn, I've re-read and edited this post twenty times - how is this possible? (Maybe gremlins? Possibly the same gremlins who keep untying my shoes while I'm walking?)

I hope the reader can guess. There's a lot of non-English as a first language readers out there though...who well..talk about lost in translation.

Sigh, so true. Usually I use it as background tv - while blogging or surfing or answering email. Like I did on Thursday. I'd look up and think, oh not a bad song, then see the surrounding story...and oh ghod what are these writers thinking???

But right now even the musical numbers are mixed bag.

I think you are right - it's dead in the water. Whether it lasts another season or not has a lot to do with whether FOX has something else to replace it. FOX is weird about tv series. I never know what it will do. Most networks I can predict, but FOX and the CW baffle me.

Yes, so often it's painful. Sometimes a word comes out phonetically, sometimes it comes out with a letter missing, sometimes the entire word is missing altogether. I check it, hit post and then notice.

I'm resisting the urge to marathon my new S1 DVD of Once Upon a Time too. I kept it down to one episode today though it was two yesterday.

Hee, the only reason I haven't marathoned them yet...is my DVR is taunting me along with the lone netflix movie sitting on the tv stand.
I sort of have to watch them first, dang it.

But I really want to re-watch the first five episodes of ONCE. Part of me wants to watch it out of order - or by order of the fairy tale flashbacks. LOL! Which would be a) time consuming to figure out, and b)possibly confusing.

The whole putting down the wrong word bit is even more annoying when posting comments to others journals. At least LJ lets everyone edit now.
I will give it that.

I marathoned seasons 1 and 2 of OUAT the weekend before last. Twice. The show makes a lot more sense watched quickly like that. I enjoyed it much more and understand season 2 a lot more now. Hence the need to chat about it last week!
