Just found out from EW that the BBC miniseries Parade's End is coming to HBO on Feb 26th as a miniseries. Three days. So I get to watch what my flist was talking about last fall - finally. Will let you know what I think - probably should start with the caveat that historicals aren't really my genre. I'm more critical of them for one thing. And I don't like focusing on the past that much. That's not to say I don't read or watch them. I read and watch everything. I'm the polar opposite of the culture vulture/culture snob. I'm the culture junkie. It's not a good thing. ;-)

Tv is getting crowded again. I can't watch it all. May skip the Oscars. Don't really care who wins...stopped caring about the Oscars after Titantic won.

But I do have predictions:

1. Best Picture: Argo or Lincoln will win best movie. My money's on Lincoln, although Argo could be a surprise. I think Lincoln deserves it - but I admittedly have not seen all the nominees.
2. Best Actor: Daniel Day Lewis will win for Lincoln, he nailed it. Hugh Jackman doesn't have a chance in heck (they never give it to musicals) and no way on earth Bradley Cooper will get it. Same deal here - admittedly haven't seen all of them. But I have seen both Lincoln and Les Miz and yes, Daniel Day deserves it over Hugh Jackman. For a simple reason - when I watched Les Miz, I thought oh I'm watching Hugh Jackman. When I watched Lincoln, I thought I'm watching Lincoln. That's the test I apply in acting categories.
3. Best Actress: No clue, haven't seen any of them. Guessing Jessica Chastin from Zero Dark Thirty or Emmaneulle Riva of Amour, although I could be wrong and Jennifer Lawrence will win for Silver Linings Playbook - which seems overrated to me.
4. Best Supporting? Ann Hathway. This will be Les Miz only win of the evening and she deserves it, Anne and the guy who played Marius made that film work. Same rule applies - when I watched Anne Hathway - I thought Fantine, when I saw Sally Field, I thought well Mary Lincoln by way of Sally Field.
5. Best Supporting Actor - again no clue, only saw Lincoln - I'd give it to Tommy Lee Jones, but I didn't see the other films.
6. Best Director: Ang Lee is who I'd give it to for the insane task of filming Life of Pi in 3D and blowing my socks off. But Spielberg will most likely win for Lincoln.

The rest? Amour will win best foreign, obviously. While Brave should get it for Animated...but people are predicting Wreck-it Like Ralph, which I have not seen.
Makeup will got to Les Miz. Song will go to Skyfall. Cinematography is Life of Pi.

What's interesting is 90% of the films nominated haven't been watched by most of the people around the world. More people sadly watched The Avengers than Lincoln, sadly, because Lincoln is the better film and more meaningful. But I can see the obsession with Avengers.

Probably will watch intermittently out of curiousity for the entertainment bits and Seth McFarland, the awards? I could care less about. Again, haven't seen most of the movies. Seen very few movies this year. No time. And they are expensive.

Rained most of today. So stayed in. Watched tv. Played on Lj, perhaps more than I should.
Yes, I know, what happened to that New Year's resolution? Daydreamed. And picked up contacts.
Personal life is rather uninteresting at the moment, so see no reason to bore you all with it.

I saw Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, and Silver Linings Play Book. I think Argo was the best "over-all" movie, SLP is very good and different, and BotSW is good, but can be somewhat hard to watch.

I love Jennifer Lawrence and have since seeing her in Winter's Bone (if you have not seen it, you should.) Everyone is excellent in SLP, but she just jumps off the screen.

Yes, Jack Nicholson was on the stage and gave the nominees and Michelle Obama was on the monitor from the White House and read the winner.
