Frustrating but good episode. The good news, I misread the spoiler I was worried about, the bad news - another twist happened that aggravated me and made me want to kick a certain character.
* Alright, Neal, how big of an ass are you? Seriously, if I was Emma - I'd break the news to his fiance - that Neal not only abandoned Emma when she was 18, so that she took the rap, but also left her pregnant.
And Henry is blaming Emma and not kicking Neal? Ack.
This twist was not appreciated. Also how much you want to bet Neal/Baelfire is Peter Pan?
The show is sort of telegraphing it now - the only one who can fly Hook's ship besides Hook according to the tale is Peter Pan. And his reaction to Hook screams Peter Pan.
Did like the explanation which I already came up with - that he had to have gone to Neverland first or he'd be about 100 years old. As he puts it, if this was my first stop I'd be a hundred years old, I stopped over somewhere else first.
* I actually agree with Snow at this point, kill Cora. Although that won't help. Honestly Regina are you a complete idiot? How did you feel when Cora killed Daniel? Do you really think Henry will forgive you and if you lie to him about it, do you think he'll forgive you for that? And not find out? Seriously, this kid has an uncanny way of sniffing out lies and he does not deal at all with them. Heck, Henry can't handle Emma's fib about Neal - and that's relatively minor in comparison to the whoppers you are going to spin. He's still holding a grudge on that one. If you attempt to kill his entire biological family...you might not like the results.
* Was worried that Snow's mom was related to Cora, rather relieved to discover that no, Cora just plotted on killing her and succeeded.
* Regina, I thought you were over the whole heart ripping out bit. And you are going to have stop ripping people's hearts out to be considered redeemable or the least bit good. Sorry, Snow's right...Good Queen's don't go around ripping out hearts and cursing folks to get a happy. Evil Queen's do that. How deep in denial are you? Stop lying to yourself hon and you might have a chance with Henry.
Right now you're behind both Hook and Rumplestilskin on the whole redemption arc bit.
You'd have thought they had made her just slightly nicer. To be fair she does question her mother's actions a bit - but still only in regards to herself. She has got to be the most self-absorbed and self-centered character on the series, with almost no self-awareness. Hon? Your unhappiness is all your own fault - not Snow's. Yours. And Mamma's. If you want to kick the person responsible, kick Mamma. (I don't need her to be redeemed, just less dumb - right now she's reminding me a bit of Elmer Fudd.)

Date: 2013-03-06 11:31 pm (UTC)No, there's a couple of differences between ONCE and the other fantasy tv series. ONCE is actually closer to Merlin in how it is set up. It's not horror, like Grimm, Buffy, Vamp Diaries, True Blood, and LOST.
Horror tends to have the whole "no one can ever get together for more than five months without being broken horribly apart" - because for some reason writers think that's the most frightening thing to focus on? Particularly horror series aimed at people between the ages of 14-25.
ONCE appears to be aimed at more of a family audience (hence the 8pm/7pm central Sunday night time slot) and less of a teen or YA audience (which likes angsty romance, lots of hot UST, and very little resolution, because you apparently can't have UST with resolution.)
So, I think you may be right...this may be a safer series to ship characters in. Although Emma is a central/sort of loner character - whose main ship is her son and mother, so I'm not sure they want to hook her up with anyone. (See dead Sheriff - in S1 for an example. With any luck they won't kill off Bae - because been there done that. I'm actually more afraid of them writing him out to say happily ever after with fiancee...but we'll see.)
It's okay, they don't have to hook her with Bae permanently, as long as I get Bae in the show and interacting with core characters...I'm willing to compromise.
Which is fine with me. I get so tired of "Happy couples are boring, let's break them up!" plotlines. Just keep 'em together and put the focus on something besides their relationship.
So agree. The problem with putting them together and splitting them up constantly is the whole series becomes about whether X and Y will ever get together. Or whether they will kiss. Or whether they will have sex.
It's entertaining for a bit, but after a while you just want to strangle the writers - make up your bloody minds already. This is getting repetitive. Talk about a lack of imagination.

Date: 2013-03-07 12:00 am (UTC)I say that because she's had on-screen chemistry with every youngish adult male that's crossed paths with her--The Huntsman, Pinocchio, the Mad Hatter, Captain Hook, and Baelfire (the only exception is David/Charming, which under the circumstances is probably a good thing). And with the exception of the Huntsman, who was immediately fridged post-kiss, and Baelfire, she hasn't seemed the least bit interested in any of those guys.
But yeah, she has a loner-hero thing going on, which makes me think they'll romance her like Joss romanced Buffy, or Angel on AtS. Give 'em to her, then take 'em away. Not in a death way in Neal's case, but in a "this just can't work out" kind of way. Which... crapola, anyway. Doesn't mean they'll get rid of Neal as a character.
Snow and Charming, on the other hand, have canon "true love" and "mom and dad of the hero" thing on their side which means we may not see much trouble for them except in brief periods.

Date: 2013-03-07 11:41 pm (UTC)As long as they don't kill him or write him out or put him with an annoying character that I can't stand, I'm happy.
See? Easy to please.
I'm not sure how they are going to handle the Neal bit. He's not a regular yet - like Hook is. Regulars are more or less safe, you know they are unlikely to write out or kill regulars. It can go more than one way...he could be her way to well someone else down the line ( a la Sawyer goes past Kate to Juliet, although Kate and Jack were the end game in LOST - these are former LOST writers), or he could be the end game, or she'll go the route of Buffy/Angel and be the lone hero.
I thinking the latter, but since the writers had originally intended to kill off Charming in the first episode and were talked out of it by their female bosses - because viewers need to hope for the happy ending, we may be in luck.
