1. Well the Buffy related post attracted a troll...they always do for some reason. Other posts not so much, just the Buffy ones or anything related to Buffy. It's so odd. Is this because those posts are rec'd on places like su_herald? The troll is gone, didn't have to do anything - since they didn't comment with an lj tag - they were automatically screened, yay, so only required a quick delete like lj spam - which to be honest is what they were, although I prefer the LJ spam less blood pressure inducing.
But it does make me wonder about the people watching sunnydale herald. Lots of crazy people in the Buffy fandom, particularly as a result of the comics. The fandom got crazier after the comics, the tv fandom was saner. But it is possible that I'm just remembering it that way. Also I don't follow the comics, Angel or Buffy, haven't since roughly 2011...mainly because even my flist's reviews of the plots (the weary few that are still reading and reviewing them which by my count is just two) are deathly dull not to mention repetitive - haven't made it through a review of one in months. Nothing against your writing guys, you are doing great - your writing hasn't changed, it's the plot/comics story arc that is dull.
There's just nothing you can do to make it interesting to me, apparently. I can't even be upset about it. Just bored. It's like one of those tv series that you realize is still on, years after you stopped watching, and you think...wait that's still on? Why? Apparently because there's a group of people out there who are still digging it. (shrugs). Taste it varies.
2. Book Meme
Okay, I'm doing the last three days together, just to get it over with. Not a great meme.
Wish someone would come up with a Movie meme that I could do.
Day 28 – Favorite title
Eh...titles aren't copyrightable, so they tend to get reused. And are often lame or unmemorable. I'm actually good at coming up with titles when I want to - frustrated journalist. A good title will make you want to read a book, a bad one...won't.
Here's a list of great titles:
* Fault in Our Stars
* The Night Circus
* Checkmate
* The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - honestly, I don't think I'd have read the book without that title.
*Game of Thrones (best title in GRR Martin's series - can see why the tv series kept that one.)
Day 29 – A book everyone hated but you liked
Define everyone. This is similar to fandom memes. There's no such thing as a book that EVERYONE hated. Actually EVERYONE doesn't like or hate anything. People who use that term, clearly have limited perspectives. Only thing you can count on from everyone - is they won't agree with you - often at the most annoying times.
If you define it as everyone on my lj and in my real life? Easy. (although watch, someone online will tell me they loved it. Then again, maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part? IF you are out there? Don't be shy? Speak up? I promise to kick the nasty trolls to the curb.)
It's 50 Shades of Grey, which I found to be hilarious and touching in places...but mainly due to the innovative style. The narrative often was told by text-messages, and contracts, not traditional prose, the writer went out of her way to adopt a 20 something internet/text-messaging style. In the process making fun of a lot of the 20 something text messaging fans I've encountered online. She gently mocks them. Also the writer broke the rules of traditional romance novels - the characters actually talk to each other when a misunderstanding arises, the heroine saves herself and the hero's sister. The hero is sort of ineffective. She also weirdly saves him. It is admittedly offensive to about 90% of the people I know - because the writing is clearly for an 8 grade reading level, albeit kinky, and well, the heroine is a 22 year old wet behind the ears (and incredibly naive) virgin, while the hero is a multi-billionaire, who is a cynical, sadistic, and damaged yet lonely soul. Plus based on a Twilight fanfic to boot. Designed to piss people off. Yet, still, I found it to be a witty mockery of the contemp romance novel. Everyone else seemed to take it too seriously, I don't why. But they did. People are weird about sex, aren't they?
Day 30 – Your favorite book of all time
Don't have one. I really don't. I have favorite books, but they change with my mood. Some I've re-read, some I memorized while reading, and some I don't want to re-read, but am haunted by.
3. Watched The Good Wife - interesting episode. Do wish the show would stop flirting with Will/Alicia. Let the ship move on. I don't really see the chemistry there. The actor/character of Will admittedly doesn't turn me on one way or the other. So there is that.
Other than that - a good episode, nice and twisty, and an excellent character study of Alicia.
Don't really have much to say beyond that.
4. Bought a back massager from Dr. Scholls for 29.99, at Rite Aid. (And yes, I know it was 19.99 at Walgreens, but I don't bloody have a Walgreens - I live in NYC not the suburbs.) It's made for a car or office chair, but I'm using it at home in my arm-chair. Will let you know how effective the thing is.
Oh, and the snow went south of us, as predicted. We didn't get much of anything, a little rain perhaps. Fairly sunny today. Apparently mother nature decided a Hurricane and a snow storm in October and November were enough for NYC?
