Feeling a bit restless today, but taking it easy - since I can't the rest of the week. Need to let the injury heal.

But have caught up on more tv shows, this round Arrow - which continues to be interesting and not your average run-of-the-mill super-hero series.

* I'm not sure Tommy Merlin's sudden decision to quit his job with Ollie and join his father makes a lot of sense. Granted Ollie hid stuff from him, but now he has trusted Tommy with a motherload of information and is clearly cut off from people he loves, which Tommy recently acknowledged. Also Ollie didn't really question Tommy that much and did buy that Tommy wasn't dealing drugs - it was understated at any rate and understandable. He just got back and he isn't sure who to trust. Cut him some slack, Merlin. OTOH - he probably told his father the truth when he stated he wanted a straight, up-front serious job that he could do during the day, and come home to Laurel at night. The problem with working for Ollie, was he was spending way too much time covering Oliver's ass, and lying to people for Ollie, while not being convinced he was doing the right thing or completely on-board with what Ollie was doing. The amusing bit is that Merlin has managed to, albeit unknowingly, jump from frying pan to fire with this move. Daddy is so much worse than Ollie, dude. Think things were tough with Ollie, just wait. Daddy's the reason, Ollie, Sarah, and Ollie's Dad almost died on that boat. And remember Merlin loved Ollie's Dad.

* The Huntress apparently went around the corner when she threatened Ollie's family and broke Merlin's wrist. Providing Ollie with yet another opportunity to save Merlin's life.
That's three so far. Pity, I liked the Huntress. Also liked Kendal, the cop that Ollie was dating - who fractured a femur and is out of commission in New Mexico as a result. Damn.
Waste of an interesting character. What happened did the actress suddenly become unavailable.
Also - so do not want the Ollie/Laural relationship again. I rather like Laurel and Tommy Merlin together actually.

* Alex Kingston is making the pop culture rounds - Doctor River Song has popped up as Laurel's mother and Paul Blackthorn's wife. She's a great actress - no trace of an accent and I barely recognized her. Want more of her. But just back to bring up the possibility that Sarah might be alive, only to have Laurel dash it to bits. (I still think Sarah may pop up again in the future - we didn't see her die or a body, so possible.) Weirdly, Kingston looks younger and far more attractive here - is it the makeup or just the production value?

* How much you want to bet Shadow also pops up, assuming she hasn't already as China White (although doubtful - since they didn't recognize each other - and another actress.) Plus Shadow and Oliver have the same tattoos, interesting that. I think the island and what was being planned there may well hook in with what the Dark Arrow and Ollie's Mom are involved in. Rather like Shadow, who has taken over her father's role as Oliver's instructor - teaching him how to hold a bow and arrow and shoot without problems. (Apparently hitting water over and over with the flat of your hand makes you capable of various things? Good to know.) I often wonder what actual marital artists make of tv shows depicting martial arts?

* Rather enjoyed the moral examination of vigilantism - forcing Oliver to question what he is doing as well as the audience. Putting both of us in Tommy Merlin's point of view. Oliver is killing people - not providing them with a second chance. Which is what he tells the subway vigilante and the huntress to do. Both Deacon and Merlin force Oliver to confront that. And the character does appear to change a bit. Or evolves.

I like tv shows with characters that evolve and don't stay stagnant. A nifty thing about the tv shows in this day and age? Audiences are so fickle and have so many choices, that the tv series writers fear boring them or losing momentum, so plot arcs move at the speed of light now as opposed to plodding along in a slow teasing build with lots of pointless filler episodes. Phew.

Agree more or less on all of the above. And yes, it does seem like Ollie's island is turning into an insane super-hero training camp.
How many instructors does he need?

I was hoping Shadow would turn out to be China White and leave the island or they'd be at odds. But what they are doing instead...is a bit, off.

Also agree on the Huntress who turned out to be a bit too one-dimensional for my taste. She required a longer arc, as did the cop Kendal. I felt short-changed on both of them. Both left before I had the chance to care.

And Tommy's sudden jump to Daddy is weird unless he has an alterior motive. Can't tell at this point. One of the few relationships that is built up well is Tommy and Ollie, the other one is Digger and Ollie.
These writers apparently suck at romantic relationships - which aren't built up well at all. Except for Tommy/Laurel and to a degree Laurel/Ollie. Sigh, I see an oppressive love triangle on the horizon.
