Oddly, I enjoyed last night's Doctor Who entitled "The Crimson Horror" quite a bit.
I state oddly, because normally I don't like Mark Gatiss' writing but this episode was fun, suspenseful and it had Diana Rigg and her daughter Sterling Rigg acting with each other as mother and daughter on screen for the first time. Which explains why the old lady looked familiar - yet another actor on Game of Thrones. I swear those actors get around. They keep popping up on other British miniseries and series.

Instead of thinking, oh there's Diana Rigg or Emma Peel, I thought, oh there's Queen of Thorns. Also as an aside, she has not aged well. Granted she's probably 85...and still acting and upright, we should all be so lucky. I think her co-star on the Avengers is long dead, although I could be wrong about that since I had thought she was dead. I also thought Bob Newhart was dead - but up he pops on Big Bang Theory of all things.

This was fun. I rather love our Victorian crime solving lesbian couple. Two different species of earthlings with their faithul handy man and butler. Plus the guy who asked for their help, but keeps fainting whenever he sees things he can't handle. IT's an old gag, but it worked.

This was an episode that focused more on supporting players and less on the Doctor and Clara. I actually like those episodes better - where we are in a separate point of view.
And we have to figure out what happened. The narrative frame-work and the cinemagraphic style were interesting - utilizing Victorian film and photos, along with a sort of psuedo steam-punk sensibility.

Granted the plot itself was rather silly. But the way they executed and told it was not.

Plus I'm starting to wonder if Elsi might be right and Clara might be related to the Tardis, similar to but separate from River Song. She reminds me a little of River in some respects.
And the reveal at the end that the two kids who she is a Nanny to - figuring out she's a time traveler, and blackmailing her into taking them along - was a nifty surprise. I like how the series shows how time travel interfers with the characters normal lives.

At any rate this episode worked better for me than last week's. Not perfect, but far more entertaining.

Promethia was ready to admit that she's lost it, as she liked it too and it was rich and deep and everything, and SURELY it couldn't be Gatiss?
