Sorry Moffat, Neil Gaiman's episode Nightmare in Silver actually made more sense and was better written than The Doctor's Name- surprising that, since I don't like the Cybermen and think they are silly. But Gaiman actually made them creepy.
My problem with The Doctor's Name is it is just one long tease without any real resolution. Oh sure - we are told who Clara is and provided with the answer to her riddle, but not the answer to the Doctor's.
Still deftly avoiding telling us his name. Clever.
Can't remember who Doctor Simian is. But do know the actor - who played the Scarlett Pimpernel in the last incarnation of the character on BBC Television. Surprised he hasn't popped up in Game of Thrones yet.
And now, John Hurt is playing the Doctor or the newest version, yet not the regenerated one?
Is he the 12th Doctor or supposed to be the original Doctor? I was confused. Also John Hurt gets around - he was also the voice of the Dragon on Merlin. That was the bit that confused me. I'm not enough of a Doctor Who fan to follow it, I'm guessing? So if you are...
Clara's riddle is clearly that she jumped through the Doctor's Time Stream to save him.
And the whole Clara arc takes place after Doctor Song's last and final visit with The Doctor before she voyaged to The Library and met the 10th Doctor and saved his life, before he knew who she was. That bit was clearly established.
The Doctor Simian copies reminded me a little too much of the Silence, yet admittedly just as creepy.
The Nightmare in Silver was just fun. And the idea of the villain attempting to re-write the Doctor was interesting but hardly knew (Star Trek did the same bit with The Borg). I did enjoy it though for the wackiness.

As far as I can tell, the most popular theories are that he's
a) a future incarnation of the Doctor
b) a past incarnation of the Doctor - presumably one between 8 and 9
c) an alternate version of the Doctor (who may or may not be the same as the Valeyard, an old nemesis from the 1980s)
So right now, as far as I can tell, nobody knows where he's supposed to fit in. I guess that's the plot.
