This week's Big Bang Theory brilliantly underlined when I'm not a fan of games. If you want to know why? Just watch the 10/3/2013 episode of the Big Bang Theory. It was also a lot better than last weeks. They are actually funnier when they focus on friendship and career stuff and not on sex or gender, mainly because the men writing this series are a wee bit on the sexist side of the fence.

Given up on Hostages - too cliche and redundant, although that isn't quite the word I'm hunting here. At any rate, I get frustrated with it. Toni Collette is not enough reason to keep watching.

Backlist is however, still engrossing me. Particularly now that one of my favorite actresses has joined the show as a smart CIA agent, Parminder Nagra. It's far from perfect, but I find the father/daughter dynamic going on between Spader's character and Elizabeth Keen fascinating. Also well cast - this week we had Jane Alexander and Isabella Rosselini.

Marvel Agents of Shield bored me this week - I wrote an online newsletter during it. And none of the characters resonate or interest me. If it continues to be like this...it's gone. Although it wasn't quite as bad as Grey's Anatomy, Hostages, and Betrayal. Grey's is hanging by a thread. Glee was actually more entertaining this week, which ahem, is saying something. The problem with Glee is I love the singing performances, just not the dialogue. Last week had more performances, less dialogue. This week had more dialogue and less performances. I taped the Originals on Friday, and haven't gotten chance to see it yet. It's gotten abysmal reviews...which does not bode well for its success, but then so did Beauty and the Beast, and it is the CW, so you never know.

Scandal - was hilarious. And a lot of fun per usual. The twist that the President leaked the mistress story in order to rob his wife of that particular piece of ammunition, knowing full well she'd go into cover-up mode to protect their careers was clever. Mellie's retort that being First Lady was boring and completely ineffective reflected what Olivia's father tells her - you were taught to aim higher! First Lady? Please. Her father sees everything as a power-play. Oh, and he apparently wasn't trying to kill Olivia last season after all - he was trying to kill Jack, the agent who the President hired to protect Olivia and was, unbeknowest to the President, one of her father's covert operatives. I keep wondering how Fitz and Cyrus will react when they realize just who Olivia's father is...

And it does make it's political speeches but not didatically or with a hammer - like Aaron Sorkin did. Here - Olivia's father tells her, in a rage, "What did I tell you? What did I teach you?"

Olivia: "I had to be better."

Her father: "You have to be twice as good as they are, in order to get half as much."

Clearly stated, within the plot, and within character, without preaching.

Watching the beginning of S2 Scandal and boy is it ironic. They are trying to get Quinn off of a bomb charge. But if you've seen the second part of S2, you already know that Hollis was behind that bombing and Olivia saved Quinn from being set up a the patsy.

My guilty pleasure, GH - has spoiler boards that I lurk on. And the fandom on those boards...sigh. But one of them had this lovely response to anyone bashing a character they loved. (BTW no one hates characters or bashes them harder or more than soap opera fans, nor does anyone do it more illogically, irrationally and hypocritically. Seriously these people make Buffy and Doctor Who fans seems fairly sane and polite by comparison. The only other fans that are THIS nutty are comic book fans.)

Anyhow...she would respond like this to anyone bashing a character she stated she loved:

"Your hate is so funny" or "While I disagree, I was amused by your hate, thank you for the laugh I needed it." or "Your hate is so prettily expressed, thank you for sharing."

The way to take the piss out of an angry bash or rant is to be incredibly nice and positive.
