TV Shows...

1. The Originals is growing on me. But then I have a weakness for convoluted, mythology laden plot threads. Plus they do exposition well. Really well. Most of these types of shows don't.

And...I admittedly like the cast. They are all quite yummy. Although, I will admit that the women all look a like. I'm having troubles telling the witches apart, and Cammie and Rebekkah could be twins.

But I like Daniel Gillis (Elijah) and Joseph Morgan (Nikklaus) and Marcel. So that's half the battle. And the actress who plays Hayley - I liked in Secret Circle.

The last episode, which I had to watch on my Ipad, since it didn't tape, was interesting.
Both the back story, and the ambiguity of the characters. Note? There are six commercial breaks - each 5-10 minutes long, with five commercials each. They feel like 20 minutes.
Because a)they repeat the same commercials, b) the commercials are dull as toast and whoever created them should be fired (particularly the horrendous geico commercial with the talking pictures - which succeeded in fouling up the download each time it aired - annoying). Also for some reason the CW has to do commercials of its other series too (which aren't boring and I didn't mind. I don't mind movie trailers or tv show commercials, I do mind "product" commercials.)

2. Vamp Diaries - is also convoluted, but did have a few interesting twists.
It always does, many are outrageous. But that's why I watch it. Also I like most of the characters...

* So Katherine's character is getting a wee bit more development. Good, I like her character - actually prefer Katherine to Elena, who always needs a man and is a bit on the whiny side. Katherine just needs Katherine. Tonight, we discover Katherine had a daughter, and that the time traveler/vampire Nadia, who bewitched Matt, and slept with and stole from Rebekkah and Matt in Europe - is in reality Katherine's kid, and was born in the 1400s and has tracked Katherine for over 500 years.

* Katherine apparently won't die when her blood is drained. To the mutual disappointment of Damon and Elena, who were sort of hoping she would. But no. Silas however has been rendered mortal and cured of Tessa's treatment by the action.

They've made a deal with Silas - to bring back Bonnie from the dead, against Bonnie's will. Serves Bonnie right - this is what you get for bringing Jeremy back hon. Karma, baby, karma.
Which Jeremy more or less points out. Jeremy's clearly fed up.

* A new and interesting character, Aaron has been introduced. I rather like the actor - who was on Life Unexpected. He's good at emoting. But I thought he looked too much like the Bio teacher, Prof. Westley - to such an extent that I was having problems telling them apart. Apparently that was a deliberate casting choice - they are related. I'm not sure how exactly.
Father/Son? Uncle/Nephew? Brothers?

Aaron is a good foil for Elena - since he too has lost everyone and has survivor guilt. (But at this point I'm wondering if there is many people in the cast who haven't? Seriously, Elena has nothing on Bonnie. Bonnie's literally lost her entire family, all her boyfriends, and her life. And she's not whining about it. Nor is all vengeful like Tyler - who only lost his mother. You know there's an uncommonly high death tally in a series - when you can actually say that. Vamp Diaries' motto is "why be subtle, when overkill is so much more fun".)

* Prof Westley apparently likes to play Mad Scientist in his spare time - experimenting on vampires, even if he has to create them. His latest is Jesse. I had flashbacks to B mad scientist horror stories while watching this.

I still think Jesse is slated to be Caroline's love interest, or possibly Stefan. Because the writers have clearly decided to have Tyler cross over to the Originals, because Nikklaus doesn't have enough adversaries and needs another one. Plus Elijah needs competition for Hayley and who better than Tyler.

* This show has better costumes than OUAT but then so does General Hospital. OUAT should steal their costume designer (Vamp Diaries not GH). Admittedly it is easier to do James Dean, Bonnie and Clyde, Anne Boylean (would never have guessed it), Cleopatra, and Henry the 8th (Damon was going for the Tudors version, apparently).

* Damon decides to help Silas get info from Tessa, in order to bring Bonnie back. Apparently the fact that Silas wants to break the barrier between limbo and their world isn't a problem any longer? Or they don't care? No, bringing Bonnie back matters more. These kids have major death issues. Bonnie's the only one who has issues with it. Not surprising. By the way where is her Gran, who's also a ghost - they couldn't afford Jasmine Guy?

But to do it, Damon has to kill Stefan - not permanently, just momentarily. Bonus.
Although Stefan understandably got sick of having his neck broken every twenty minutes.
Shame it couldn't have been permanent. That character just keeps getting more and more annoying. I'm starting to feel sorry for the actor - who is most likely enjoying playing Silas more. Silas is admittedly more entertaining. You know there's a problem when the evil dopplegangers are more entertaining than the good ones.

3. The Good Wife

Highly entertaining episode. I even dreamed about it - which means I should not watch it before bed. This season, so far, has been the best. And it reminds me of why I'm not practicing as a lawyer. Very realistic about how law is practiced in the United States, more so than any other series that I've seen. Also realistic about the conflicting laws, regulations, procedures and how widely they can be interpreted by lawyers and judges.

* Will's a bit sleazy...and I'm willing to bet his tattooed girl friend really does want a baby. All of Will's relationships eventually bite him in the butt, mainly because he's such a womanizer. The gal he should have stuck with - Tammy, but threw over for an affair with Alicia, was his only hope for happiness. But Will wants power. Power is his mistress.
He doesn't want to compromise. He is however a deliciously complex character. These writers write very complex characters.

* Poor Alicia can't get her daughter away from the young 20 something male associates fast enough. And her daughter is dying for the attention. And now wants a gun - and to learn how to shoot. I feel sorry for Alicia, if I had a daughter like Grace - I'd throw her into a very strict boarding school with nuns.

* I continue to love love love the Cary/Alicia pairing - they really are the new Diane/Will.
Not romantic, thank god. But equals. They work brilliantly together and both understand how to fight Lockhardt/Gardner and share looks - like yep, that's so Will or so Diane.

* Poor Diane - I felt for her when the judgeship was yanked. I still think Peter made a huge mistake. And his ethics chair was right on the money - when she advised Alicia to inform Peter that he needs to stay out of her business. He does. He is not helping her. As Will put it - Peter goes all tribal whenever anyone hurts Alicia - but he's not helping. Alicia would have been far better off if Diane got the judgeship. Now Diane's out for blood too. And I wouldn't want Diane as an enemy. I always saw Diane as deadlier than Will - which was proven in this episode - where Diane gets her case back. It actually was Diane's episode - started with Diane, and her nervousness about the case - losing the case, losing the judgeship, then fighting to get the case back. It made sense she'd get it back at the end - because the arc was beat down Diane, beat her down, while Alicia rose above her - so at the end - Diane gets that small victory.

Going to bed now.

Do you think that when Alicia finds out that Peter has pulled Diane's judgeship, that she'll ask him to reinstate it? Because I can see that that could totally backfire, as even though I think Alicia feels Diane deserves the judgeship, it could later appear as her pulling strings politically.

I had a daughter like Grace - I'd throw her into a very strict boarding school with nuns.

Wouldn't an action similar to that just make Grace more likely to act out? As you may recall, I haven't seen the first few seasons of this show-- is Alicia's reaction to Grace's current behavior being triggered by something from Alicia's past?

No, Alicia wouldn't interfere. Peter stays out of her business, and she stays out of his. The only times Alicia has said anything to Peter regarding his business - is when it affected her kids. Even when he was DA, she tended to avoid interfering. It's similar to the Gary Cole/Diane bedroom scene - where he reminds Diane that they had agreed not to vet each others choices or interfere.

Alicia never suggested Diane become a Supreme Court Justice and didn't even know about it - until she was brought in (against her will) to negotiate Diane's exit package.

In regards to Grace? I was joking. (snark, man, snark).

No, Grace apparently is similar to how Alicia was a child. And Alicia has a horrible relationship with her own mother. She's attempting to avoid that with Grace. Also Alicia's trying to have a career and children at the same time, with little to no parental support from Peter. That's why it's there - the power play between Alicia and Grace, and the difficulty of trying to start your business and be a mother doing most of the heavy lifting at the same time. Many men, unfortunately, thrust the bulk of the parenting duties onto their spouses.
