When tv shows collide...

Kalinda (reading a passage to Diane) - tell me to stop when I've read too much. 'Elena wanted to marry Stefan, but she could not resist Damon, when he pulled her into his arms. She just wanted him to sink his fans into her throat.'

Diane gives her a confused look.

Kalinda: It's a Vampire Diaries fanfic, if they find out you wrote it - they would think twice about making you a Supreme Court Justice.

Diane: But how can that be? I've never heard of the Vampire Diaries.

Kalinda: It came from your IP address and computer.

Diane: Oh, it's probably my housekeeper - I'll just talk to her about using my computer.

Kalinda: No you have to fire her.

Diane: She has three children, she's a nice lady, who just has to be reminded of boundaries.

Kalinda: No, you have to get rid of the paper trial.

Me (Shadowkat): Bwhahahha...apparently even your housekeeper can't write fanfic about a tv show if you want to become a Supreme Court Justice. And this wasn't even slash fanfic.

Also, yet another example of "meta-narrative". Also, guess it's a good thing I don't do political appointments.

As an aside, I realized something reading The Captive Prince, I actually identify better with straight-forward no-nonsense heroes...the manipulative heroes, I find a lot more interesting in fiction but I don't really understand them. I don't think that way. Manipulation, brownosing, and politicking tend to be lost on me. I'm oblivious. In short I identified a great deal with the pov of that book.

Am thinking of either reading Cyteen by CJ Cherryh or Privelege of the Sword next. Or I will keep trudging my way through Dance of Dragons - I'm told the second half is better than the first half, just takes a while to get there.

It's been years since I read it, but I recall really enjoying Cyteen. Have you read anything else by her? Cyteen is nice in that you really don't have to have read any of the other books in that universe for it to make sense (although it does help a bit to understand some of the undercurrents in the plotlines).

Read the Chanur novels - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chanur_novels

Which I adored.

I don't know if I can handle Cyteen right now - it apparently requires more time, focus, and concentration than I can afford to give it. I'm having troubles with Dance of Dragons...which is relatively easy in comparison.
