1. Every time I think this election can't get any more absurd, it does. The latest? Trump wants to kill his opponent. (Well, we sort of already knew that. But I think he forgot he wasn't on a reality tv show and therefore is not permitted to state that out loud, without repercussions. Assuming there are repercussions. This sort of begs the question - what exactly are the limitations of "free speech" in this context? And does the ACLU really want to defend Trump's right to joke about killing his opponent and the former first lady of the United States publicly?) As someone on Twitter stated, it appalled Stephen King. (Yes, it did.)

In the sci-fi novel that I'm writing, which takes place in the future of an Alternate Universe (at least I hope it is an Alternate Universe) - Trump wins the election. Aliens invade to save the earth. Give Trump a miracle drug, which allegedly will heal all his medical issues, and add about fifty years to his life, but in reality turns him into a mutated zombie. What can I say, the miracle drug didn't work for everyone.

Here's an exchange between the guerilla fighter who is attempting to negotiate a peace treaty with the aliens, about twenty years after the aliens fell to earth and turned half the population including Trump into mutated zombies, but hey they saved the earth in the process:

"Half the people who took your drug died. And rather horribly,” I added suppressing a shudder. “They also managed to take quite a few of the people who didn’t take your miracle drug with them. Not to mention a few of those that did.”

“There’s always inherent risks associated with innovative medical treatments. We did after all warn your leaders that there may be mixed results.”

“I think if President Trump knew that your miracle drug would turn him into a rampaging zombie, he may have thought twice about approving it.”

“I fail to see the problem. I met your President, if anything the rampaging “zombie” version was a vast improvement. Some may even say that we did you favor there.”

“He's certainly a more manageable one.” I muttered. “Rumor has it that he’s still locked away somewhere for observation.”

2. I'm not really watching or reading anything new this summer. Just re-reading and re-watching things I've already seen. Well, outside of The Great British Baking Show on PBS, which I find rather comforting, even if I can't eat anything on it. Rooting for Nadyia at the moment, also somewhat partial towards Tamal and Matt, the Fireman.

Stranger Things was rec'd by someone at work, and various folks on my livejournal. As was,
War & Peace, Marco Polo, and that's about it.

I have not been watching the Olympics, mainly because whenever I flip it on, it's either volleyball, or interviews. Most of it is taking place when I'm asleep or at work.

Reading wise? Still reading the same things that I discussed last week. Enjoying them, quite a bit.
The Pristine Mind bit, works. You calm your mind, so there's no idle chatter. Figured out finally, after all this time, that the negative thoughts and chatter in my head was my worst enemy. It's not that it has disappeared exactly, as I have figured out how to stop listening...and once you stop listening, it sort of goes away. Hard to explain. But it works. And that's all that matters.
This has resulted in another group of epiphanies:

* Life is an adventure, treat everything like an adventure, regardless of what it is, much more fun that way and less worrisome
* Like/love whatever you like/love -- doesn't matter what others think, besides it's not like you have to discuss it with them
* Don't sweat the small stuff - it will disappear eventually
* Live in the moment as much as possible - you can't change the past, or do much about the future, just live in the now
* Get all the info required

Flirting with a few non-fiction books: Grunt, The Human Genome, Packing for Mars...sent samples to myself. Grunt is a best-seller about innovative scientific discoveries that aided the military - such as building up one's immunity against snake bites.
I figure this could be useful for the stories that I'm currently writing. Same with Packing for Mars - which is about what you would bring with you on a space voyage and traveling in space.

I like science writings, actually far more than historical biographies or histories. Find it to be more useful, not to mention reliable. Not surprising, considering my favorite genres are science fiction/fantasy and mystery. Only two that I tend to write in. I've read a lot of romance, but it's boring to write - not enough plot and character gymnastics to keep me entertained.

I've seen this case cited (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/395/444#writing-USSC_CR_0395_0444_ZO) as the reason why Trump won't be prosecuted for threatening Clinton. I don't know if it will actually apply, but seems to fit to my eyes. Unfortunately. I'd love to see him go to jail, preferably a state prison in the south...
