1. The Path to the X-men joining the MCU movieverse Just Got a Lot Clearer...along with the Fantastic Four
I've mixed feelings.
“There shouldn’t be two Marvels,” he added. And Anthony and Joe Russo, stalwart directors in the Avengers universe, recently said they are certain that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige “is going to incorporate those characters under the large Marvel umbrella.”
Yeah, I can see that happening actually. The last issue of UnCanny X-men #14 had Captain America show up on the final page and he was also in UnCanny X-men #11, along with Bucky and Black Widow.
The X-Men and Avengers Could Face Off
Fans have speculated that the upcoming Marvel movies will build toward another epic event, perhaps a showdown between the Avengers and X-Men.
Yeah, well, that's why I've always struggled with the Avengers.
X-Men Might Get Rebooted
Fox has already scheduled two X-Men movies for 2019: Dark Phoenix (June 7) and New Mutants (Aug. 2). But after those movies premiere, it’s unclear if Disney will continue with the current storyline and cast or reboot the series entirely.
A little worried that the merger could ruin Dark Phoenix. Less worried about New Mutants. Although I do agree with this..
The X-Men bring a lot of storyline baggage to Disney. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) created two separate X-Men timelines that have vexed fans since. Characters who are alive in one parallel universe are dead in another, or heroic in one universe but evil in another. It makes for a confusing moviegoing experience when several years pass between installments. Marvel tends to be careful about the potential ripple effect of certain details and plot points—for example, dates are removed from Peter Parker’s passport in Spider-Man: Homecoming—in order to free future films from a restrictive timeline. So adding parallel universes to the already complicated Marvel Cinematic Universe would be unwise.
Yeah, they do. But they also bring baggage to comics. Honestly it's a convoluted 57-60 year old superhero soap opera that started in 1961. The original X-men are shown to be in their 30s, when they should be in their 60s. Wolverine is older than Captain America. And Scott Summers is about the same age as Nick Fury.
But they also bring a lot of really cool villains. And great characters -- some of the most complex characters in the Marvel Verse are in the X-men and Fantastic Four comics. Helped by the fact that the X-men themselves aren't necessarily clear cut heroes. And the X-men are more diverse -- we have more women, more POC, and a greater variety of nationalities. There's more women in the X-men than the Avengers -- and more interesting female characters, not to mention diverse. We have Rogue, Storm, Psycholock, Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, Mystique, Magick, Rahn, Monet, Husk, Moira McTaggart, Stevie, Callisto, Lorna, etc.
So, I'm looking forward to Marvel rebooting it and doing live-action television series -- hopefully better than the Gifted and Generation X. More in line with Legion.
Villains? Legion, Stryfe, Trask, Magnet, Emma Frost, Mystique, The Mauraders, Omega Red, Cassandra Nova, Dark Beast, Doctor Doom, The Submariner, Mr. Sinister, The Goblin Queen...
But this is a good time to be a superhero comics or a comics fan in general. All these lovely adaptations of comic books popping up. Hey I have to get my jollies somewhere, right? Also, whenever the news gets dire -- we get an upswing in superhero action movies and musicals.
2. My flist keeps recc'ing Umbrella Academy. Seen Recs here and on FB. So should probably check it out soon. Although what I want to do is rent and re-watch The Avengers and The Avengers Age of Ultron. I'm in one of THOSE moods, apparently.
3. Ford Will Build its First Driverless Cars in 2020 -- so do you think I'll be able to afford one in ten years, let alone that they will be ready by then? Because that would take care of the whole not being able to drive problem...
If I wait long enough, technology may solve my worries for me. Go technology. And just after I spent half my week cursing you...
4. Remember that book I read for the SmartBitches Book Club, which disappointed me?
Mercerny Instinct Book Club Discussion.
The Gist? They liked it better than I did. But I'm guessing they haven't read some of the science fiction novels I've read -- either.
Also, their recs are hit and miss for me.
I left a comment. I'd been waiting for the podcast. Curious to see what they thought of some of the problematic sections.

Date: 2019-03-23 01:58 pm (UTC)And I wouldn't get it in NYC. I don't like being in a cab, uber or lyft in NYC, although I can deal with it. I'd get it after I move out of NYC. It would make it possible for me to leave the city.
NYC is the only place in the world, where you really don't have to drive at all -- and can be totally independent and get just about anywhere.
