1. The MTA (MASS TRANSPORTATION AGENCY) Vs. the Corona Virus

Sound the Horn - today at 3PM every train and bus across the country sounded its horn in support of the transit workers who have risked their lives, and some who sacrificed them.

MTA Launches Sound the Horn Campaign in Support of Heroes Transporting Heroes

MTA to Give Families/Spouses of Workers Killed by the Coronavirus $500,000 - in a killed in the line of duty benefit

The MTA has lost 50-60 workers to date.

2. Governor of New York Extends Stay-at-Home aka Pause Order until May 15

Eh, here's what he said in the email they sent me (I put myself on the NYS Government mailing list). (The gist is that we have to wear masks, he's not lifting the stay at home order until there are a lot more tests, he's sending unused venitlators to New Jersey, he sent some to Maryland and I think Pennsylvania yesterday, and if you are really bored go look at the Bronx Zoo stuff on Instagram.)

1. "New York on PAUSE" will be extended until May 15th. This action is taken in consultation with other regional states. Non-essential workers must continue to stay home and social distancing rules remain in place. We will re-evaluate after this additional closure period. I know this is hard, but we must stay the course.

2. Today I outlined a blueprint to get New Yorkers back to work and ease social isolation without triggering a renewed spread of the virus. The blueprint operates under one overarching principle — do no harm. As part of the strategy to reopen, we will strengthen the healthcare system; use diagnostic testing, antibody testing and contact tracing to limit the spread of the virus; and implement a phased return to a "new normal" — which will include evaluating risk by industry, starting with the most essential businesses that present the lowest risk, rethinking the workplace to make it safer, and implementing protocols for response if a worker develops COVID-19 symptoms. Real the full plan here.

3. New Yorkers MUST wear masks or face coverings on public transportation systems and while taking private transportation or riding in for-hire vehicles. Additionally, all operators of public systems, private carriers and for-hire vehicles must wear a mask or face covering at all times while working. These directives expand on the Executive Order announced yesterday requiring everyone in New York to wear a mask or a face covering when out in public and in situations where social distancing cannot be maintained. The order will go into effect on Friday, April 17th, at 8 PM.

4. New York will send 100 ventilators to our friends in New Jersey. Other states helped us when we needed it most, and we are proud to do the same. We will get through this by helping one another.

5. The number of hospitalizations continue to fall but we are not out of the woods yet. Yesterday, total hospitalizations fell to 17,735, the third straight day of declines. However, infections remain high and the virus is still spreading. Visit covid19tracker.health.ny.gov to see the latest data.

Tonight's "Deep Breath Moment": Even though the Bronx Zoo is closed due to Coronavirus, you can still visit virtually through the zoo's Instagram page. You can catch up with many different animals, like the two recently hatched penguin chicks.

Hardly surprising.

Considering how expensive the virus has become to crazy workplace, I'm thinking the remote/telecommuting workers aren't going back until at least July. In our teleconference staff meeting held today - boss informed us that we couldn't go back until the organization was able to provide full protection for everyone against the virus, which there's no word yet. It's actually cheaper to have us continue to work from home. Less people spreading the virus - to worry about.

I have a feeling that before they'll let us return to the office, we'll all be subjected to antibody testing.

Governor also passed an order that everyone should wear masks in public - if you risk coming in contact with another person, whom you are not living with - you have to wear a mask. (Basically every time I live my apartment, I have to wear one. (Which means to take trash out, do laundry, go grocery shopping, pick up the mail or packages from down stairs, taking a walk, basically anything outside of my physical apartment. But considering I was already doing that - it's not really an issue. Except I've bought more face masks - mainly because the ones assorted friends promised, have no arrived. The additional face masks - I bought, have a filter and are hand-washable. I also have the 50 disposable ones. And my bandanas and scarves. I think I'm covered. On top of that - I try to stay six feet away from folks.)

Governor was a bit irritable at the people who didn't want to wear the masks. Also the Doofus who was questioning NY's death rate. Governor stated -"Now why would we want to say there are more deaths than there actually are? What do we gain by that? Wouldn't it make more sense for us to say there were less? And for those who think no one died and we're making this up - I'm more than happy to show you the bodies of the 600 people who died today."

During our teleconference call, Lando expressed his frustration with this whole telecommuting thing. He has the wrong word processing system - so everything is really hard to do on his home computer, which to be fair was set up to record music not procure and manage construction contracts.

Lando: I feel like I'm stuck in a really bad movie, and I just want to leave for a bit to get snakes, or popcorn, and I can't do that.
Me: More like the endless Twilight Zone Episode from hell and I want better writers.

We were also all confused by the executive assistants multiple emails regarding what number to call and hoped we were on the right line.

3. I'm still here and well, for the most part. Do have the pesky allergy thing.
Which caused me to panic a bit last night - because my eyes ached and itched, and this is apparently a new symptom? It's also a symptom of seasonal allergies. It went away today, do I'm no longer worried.

My niece (aka love of my life) birthday was today - she turned 16. And received the book, I purchased for her. It was the second book in Philip K. Pullman's Book of Dust series. I introduced my niece and brother the His Dark Materials series. Mainly because I like it a lot better than CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia or a lot of other children's fantasy series. So too, did my niece and brother, who adore it. Win!

Over the years my brother and I have traded books and music. We both have eclectic tastes. And a very snarky sense of humor - which we've inherited from my father.
She had a decent little birthday - with a strawberry cake, and some presents.

As an aside, the only problem with working remotely - is that I stupidly put my work email on my phone and some of my project managers don't appear to know when to STOP working. They keep going. I'm blatantly ignoring them. There's nothing so pressing that it can't wait until tomorrow. Besides, I didn't have that much to do today - waiting on them.

My father is driving my poor mother batty - I know, what's new? He keeps telling her that someone else made a mess in the bathroom, whenever he has an accident.

Mother: Do you think it was me?
Father: No, it was someone else.
Mother: Okay, but who? There's no one else here.
Father: It didn't occur to me that no one would believe me.

Me: You probably should just go along with it. Let him blame someone else.
Mother: Yeah, I know, but somehow I can't help myself. I keep feeling the need to correct him. (Most likely habit - considering my parents have either corrected each other or their kids their entire lives.) I usually just state..."okay, whatever, just tell me if it needs to be cleaned up. To which he responds, "no, no, I took care of it."

This has been hard on my Dad.

My mother also informed me that my niece has decided to go on a road trip this summer with her friend from Kansas City (the daughter of my brother's high school "platonic" girl-friend). Went a place up in Maine. My mother said she thinks my niece is a bit overly optimistic. And doubts either parent will permit this.

Currently, I'm just taking this one day at a time and not looking much past the moment. Even if the silly world that I live in tries to make me do otherwise. Sorry, not happening.

On the delivery front - the deliveries are odd. The one's that I think will take forever - come immediately, and the one's I thought I'd not have to wait for and would come quickly - take forever. For example? I ordered my mother chocolate, it came within two-three days. I ordered myself chocolate -- no clue when it's going to arrive. My Imperfect Food Delivery - will arrive tomorrow, apparently, since there's been a delay. I'm okay with this - since I've enough to last two weeks. Its adding veggies. Imperfect Foods mission to combat food waste which it does very well - by delivering the food that restaurants don't take. Considering restaurants aren't taking anything at the moment - this is actually a great idea.

Off to make dinner and watch cartoons.

[Oh, as an aside - it's been thirty days since last period started...where's the next one? Hello? Does this mean menopause? Or is this just par for the course? Curious minds would like to know. I really hate perimenopause.]

Menopause is official a year after the last period. But there could be 4-5 years of sporadic periods before that happens. In my case I had 3 periods in my final year before they ended.
