Which various people are doing...I've been following beergoodfoamy's but snagged it from wendahl, because she listed all the questions.

Day 1: A song you like with a color in the title - (emphasis on like, there's a lot I don't or can't remember).

There's a reason I never really do these things, or just do them all at once. I'm absent-minded. I'm liable to forget or skip a day.

Oh that's the "Gay Paradise but they Put up a Parking Lot" song - that's how I know it - and I call it the Parking Lot song in my head. I think it's because Big Yellow Taxi doesn't feature heavily in the song lyrics, so I can't remember it. Same problem with Take Five - I know the song, just not the title. The Big Yellow Taxi doesn't come into play until the second or third verse. And it's not repeated. In fact in many renditions, that line isn't even sung..."Big Yellow Taxie" took away my old man" is barely heard.

What I remember from the song is "Oh, you don't know what you have until it's gone, they had a gay paradise and put up a parking lot.." that's it.

By the way I'm seeing a pattern emerging with your choices here - are you deliberately picking songs that the title doesn't feature at all in the lyrics and as a result isn't memorable and innocuous? Because if so, clever. Those would be hard to come up with.

The color song that she did that I remember is Blue - which I've mixed feelings about. (The color does feature heavily in the song.)

I used to own all her albums on tape. Also, had many on CD. Now, I listen on my phone.
(CD player, record player, and cassette players are long gone, along with most of the collection.)

Music! I wish everyone would do this meme. Two great choices. "Brown-Eyed Girl" for some reason I associate with The Last Waltz, a film about The Band's last concert. I think Van Morrison performed it live. I think. He was great. Also very, very drunk and/or stoned. Maybe both. "Yellow Brick Road" I associate with my sister, a huge Elton John fangirl, but also, naturally, to The Wizard of Oz, my very favorite movie.


The first time I heard "Yellow" playing on the radio, back in 2000, I started crying, no lie. Yellow by Coldplay. It's been 20 years. Chris Martin was in his early twenties; I was not much older than Martin is today. (It's amazing how hearing a song again can catapult you into the past--just like that.)

I've never really seen Morrison perform, which may be a good thing? I love his songs though.

For me, it's more about if I can remember the song title. Because I can't remember the titles of things well. Some song titles stick in my head better than others. Brown Eyed Girl came to mind, because I'd just listened to it. But Yellow Brick Road is one I always remember - because of the Wizard of OZ reference.

I don't really associate either with anything though - which is odd. Actually I was trying to pick something other than Tangled up in Blue. I had to google, and then Brown-Eyed Girl came to me. I strongly considered picking Whiter Shade of Pale, which I love. I love surreal songs for some reason.

Morrison has a reputation for tanking live performances, whether he's drunk, jet lagged, or not in the mood. When I saw him live, I got #3. Sigh. Well, I was warned.

"Whiter Shade of Pale" took its organ line from Bach's "Air on a G String," but Gary Brooker reconfigured it into something new. It's unique in modern pop music.
