Oh, I adore Tina Turner - and Proud Mary. She does it the best, I think.
The song - from Cat People only works when Bowie sings it. His voice is so haunting. It's the first time I heard his voice, and my mother and I just fell in love with it. The movie I can't remember at all. Usually, it's the opposite. I loved it so much, I got the soundtrack to the movie just for that song, sung by Bowie.
It's like Proud Mary - it sounds better with Turner than Creedance Clearwater Revival who I think wrote it.
The CCR version--and yes, it's a Fogerty original--is a leisurely trip down the Mississippi in a riverboat. It's got a relaxed mid-tempo groove, always pleasant to the ears...
Tina just blows that shit up. "I never do things nice and easy...I always do things nice and ROUGH."
