The prompt is Scariest horror movie soundtrack
Hmmm..
And the rejected score determined by the movie studio to be too scary for audiences. They made William Freidkian remove it - because it scared the audience so badly.

Date: 2020-10-07 12:04 am (UTC)Psycho (1960), directed by Alfred Hitchcock; score by Bernard Herrmann
Herrmann is a legend among composers, working with Hitchcock during the most successful stretch of Hitchcock's career. Even after they split, Hitchcock acknowledged that Herrmann's Psycho score was essential in ratcheting up the tension in the movie.
I'm not going to link the shower scene or even the opening credits; let's go for a deep cut:

(Herrmann alternates between a swirling, agitated score to reflect Marion's state of mind and a soothing, "gliding" string arrangement for road travel music. )

Now my favorite Herrmann score, the one that really gives me a chill, is The Day the Earth Stood Still (that theremin--wooo!). But that's scifi, not horror, and does not qualify for this meme.

Date: 2020-10-07 02:30 am (UTC)I do tend to see a lot of sci-fi films as horror though. I considered using Alien, and decided on The Exorcist. Was going to go with Night on Bald Mountain - but I don't find it scary. Also considered Psycho - that was actually my second choice. But the thing I love the most about the Exorcist is the score, next is Ellen Burnstein and Max Von Syndow.
