To go outside and walk around the park in 26 degree weather or stay at cubicule during lunch break and write post? Hmmm.

Finished Pale Demon by Kim Harrison last night. (I took a break from my slow plod through Girl With Dragon Tatooe to read it. And ended up inhaling the book in the space of maybe four-five days, possibly less - keep in mind I don't have a lot of time to read outside of 20 minutes on the train, five minutes waiting for train, five-ten minutes on subway and at home each night for about two hours if that. This week, I've stayed up way past my bedtime to read said book. Last night - I went grocery shopping, came home,
changed clothes, and thought - I'll just read book for an hour or so - turned into two hours and a half, which meant eating at 8. Then tv show, which I basically read during, and reading until midnight. Not good when you have to get up at 6 am the next morning. Also did not sleep - because wired from book.
Even though I finished it. Have you had this experience? Falling inside a book? Becoming so engaged that you find yourself reading parts aloud to yourself and wanting to literally consume the book. And upset when the last page flies by and there isn't well more...because you want more, dang it.
And feel incredibly bereft that there isn't. And now you have to find a new book and hope it will engage you in the same, or maybe not - since you need your sleep and well not to be so consumed by a book?)

book review, well sort of, with vague spoilers for series )

I will state that Kindle's unlike hardback books or paper-backs, make it almost impossible to skip ahead and see how the story will turn out. As a result this was more of a page turner, then if I'd bought it in hardback, because I do skip ahead if I can get away with it.

The book left me unsatisfied much as the Hunger Games, Changes, Harry Potter, and many others have. But I know another will come out next year, so not that bad a thing. But I have this feeling after reading it of wanting a bit more, sort of similar to how I feel when I eat a chocolat mousse. That was good. More please?

Sigh, am in between books again, will most likely go back to Girl With Dragon Tattoo. Went over to the writer's (Kim Harrison - Rachel Morgan Series not GWDT) blog and was mildly amused by the people attempting to obtain spoilers from the writer regarding upcoming books and what happens next in the lead character's romantic relationships. The writer kept saying, uh, not going to tell you and I have no clue - haven't written it yet and there are 12 to 13 books in the series. (Like she's really going to tell you what is in the next book? She wants you to buy it. You know, so she can make money. Hello.) I think we are on 7, I haven't counted. And we'll see if I make it to 12 or 13. Very rare that I read all the books in these series - the writer usually loses me somewhere along the way. So far this one is holding my interest, by continuing to evolve both her world and her characters as well as their relationships in an unpredictable and intriguing fashion. Also her focus is more on friendships than romance, so that helps. Really not a paranormal romance writer. More like Butcher than LK Hamilton. Also mildly amused by the number of people who are asking the writer to justify her character's somewhat amoral actions. Folks, I want to say, it's noir! Hello. Look at the titles. This is like asking Peckinpah to justify The Man With No Name or Eastwood to justify Dirty Harry's actions. The character's actions speak for themselves - they aren't meant to be role models for moral behavior. Noir really isn't a genre for holier than thou types or people who think everything is black or white morally speaking - it gives them whiplash.

Another excellent episode of The Good Wife - anyone who calls this a court-room procedural isn't watching the show. There's relatively little court-room in it.

Will have to write more about it later. Because yawn. At any rate - it hit all the right buttons, and asked some interesting questions, not the least of which being the degree to which we are willing to compromise ourselves to make the almighty buck. Also touching on China and the internet - something I've known about since the 1990s, when I was negotiating deals with magazine publishers regarding China. China has some interesting laws regarding internet access and intellectual property.

Watched House this week...and I'm starting to feel sorry for Cuddy. Rather love Cuddy.
Also realized...House along with Grey's Anatomy are doing - musical episodes?? Okaaay. This worked on shows like Scrubs and Buffy, even Xenia, but I'm not so sure it can work on straight dramas such as Grey's and House without looking silly. They'll probably do it as a dream-sequence, or some character doped up on meds - that's how Scrubs handled it - the person's malady was everything they heard and saw was a musical. Am a sucker for musicals. But still. OTOH - I'd pay good money to see Hugh Laurie sing - the man is a good musician. You can blame Glee and Buffy for this trend.

Okay off to sleep.
