Sigh, am in between books again, will most likely go back to Girl With Dragon Tattoo. Went over to the writer's (Kim Harrison - Rachel Morgan Series not GWDT) blog and was mildly amused by the people attempting to obtain spoilers from the writer regarding upcoming books and what happens next in the lead character's romantic relationships. The writer kept saying, uh, not going to tell you and I have no clue - haven't written it yet and there are 12 to 13 books in the series. (Like she's really going to tell you what is in the next book? She wants you to buy it. You know, so she can make money. Hello.) I think we are on 7, I haven't counted. And we'll see if I make it to 12 or 13. Very rare that I read all the books in these series - the writer usually loses me somewhere along the way. So far this one is holding my interest, by continuing to evolve both her world and her characters as well as their relationships in an unpredictable and intriguing fashion. Also her focus is more on friendships than romance, so that helps. Really not a paranormal romance writer. More like Butcher than LK Hamilton. Also mildly amused by the number of people who are asking the writer to justify her character's somewhat amoral actions. Folks, I want to say, it's noir! Hello. Look at the titles. This is like asking Peckinpah to justify The Man With No Name or Eastwood to justify Dirty Harry's actions. The character's actions speak for themselves - they aren't meant to be role models for moral behavior. Noir really isn't a genre for holier than thou types or people who think everything is black or white morally speaking - it gives them whiplash.
Another excellent episode of The Good Wife - anyone who calls this a court-room procedural isn't watching the show. There's relatively little court-room in it.
Will have to write more about it later. Because yawn. At any rate - it hit all the right buttons, and asked some interesting questions, not the least of which being the degree to which we are willing to compromise ourselves to make the almighty buck. Also touching on China and the internet - something I've known about since the 1990s, when I was negotiating deals with magazine publishers regarding China. China has some interesting laws regarding internet access and intellectual property.
Watched House this week...and I'm starting to feel sorry for Cuddy. Rather love Cuddy.
Also realized...House along with Grey's Anatomy are doing - musical episodes?? Okaaay. This worked on shows like Scrubs and Buffy, even Xenia, but I'm not so sure it can work on straight dramas such as Grey's and House without looking silly. They'll probably do it as a dream-sequence, or some character doped up on meds - that's how Scrubs handled it - the person's malady was everything they heard and saw was a musical. Am a sucker for musicals. But still. OTOH - I'd pay good money to see Hugh Laurie sing - the man is a good musician. You can blame Glee and Buffy for this trend.
Okay off to sleep.

Date: 2011-03-05 02:32 am (UTC)I'm loving Cuddy too, this story line has really managed to do a lot for her character. Let's face it: we all love House (just as we all loved Sherlock Holmes) but actually living with an obsessive difficult person like that? That would be really hard to take. I'm glad the show decided to go with this relationship because I'm enjoying it a lot.

Agree. It's an interesting and fairly realistic examination of what it would be like to be in love with someone like House. He's brilliant, but the brilliance hampers his ability to handle being around others. While he can be there for Cuddy at times - like helping her save her mother, other times he can't be. You can see why she loves him, but you can also see how incredibly difficult and painful it is for her.
Oh - the musical episode is supposed to be a dream sequence in Cuddy's pov. Won't be the whole episode. (This according to EW - my guilty pleasure entertainment mag.)
