Sigh. It's the time of year for the sadistic movie goer to creep out on the internet.

Horror fans on Twitter are promoting Terrifier 2 as the film to see - based solely on the fact that it is causing people to pass out in movie theaters.

I think I'll skip - the trailer for the movie was bad enough. It basically shows an evil clown killing people.

I did watch a movie that was being touted today on the internet, entitled Barbarian.

Imagine showing up at your Airbnb in the middle of the night only to discover the rental home is already inhabited by a supposedly double-booked houseguest and other terrors. That’s the nightmare greeting that Tess (Georgina Campbell) faces in Zach Cregger’s bloody thriller, which Variety recently dubbed the second-best horror film of the year. Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long also star. (Streams on HBO Max)

Barbarian Review - the endless twists and turns are part of its funhouse charm

It was dumb. I felt like I'd seen it before. But the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and horror film critics loved it to pieces and thought it was innovative with lots of twists and turns.

I was disappointed. There were no real twists and turns.

Also there's Youtube videos where folks are trying to figure it out. Their jaw's dropped during it, and it shocked them.

I'm beginning to wonder about our educational system.

I think what was shocking was it didn't follow the formula. Admittedly most films follow a paint-by-numbers plot arc or formula. This didn't. Not everything does. But a lot of folks don't tend to see the non-formulaic films. It's narrative structure was a bit more unique, and it had a heavy feminist and pro-abortion theme. Women suffer from male stupidity and cruelty, not to mention misogyny.

Men do not come out well in this film. It also focuses on a lot of female fears. And twists some male fears and fantasies.

I didn't find it all that scary, just some jump moments.

There's better stuff out there.

Finished watching Power of the Doctor - which was one hour of The Doctor, and one hour of commercials (the same ones over and over).

Oh well, Disney + is going to start streaming it soon - so this won't be a problem.

Possibly the best episode that I've seen of Chinball/Whittacker run. I tried watching various episodes but gave up half-way through due to boredom. There were a few decent ones in the first year or so.

This one was a good end to her run. And by far, one of the better episodes. It works on its own merits. The finale's of each Doctor's run are actually fairly good for the most part - or at least for the five Doctors that I've watched to date.

I was already spoiled on the regeneration. Although I was surprised by the Spoiler ) Not on the guest stars - but I also haven't watched the old Who, so didn't recognize them anyhow.

Considering it was set up for a lot of 60th Anniversary cameos - it had good plot, and worked all the way through. Also had good villains, albeit previous ones, which have been used repetitiously over 60 some years (which may well be on purpose - considering next year celebrates 60 years of the Doctor, sheesh, the 50th anniversary didn't feel like it was all that long ago, sometimes). I honestly think Stephen Moffat was the only one who came up with cool new villains/monsters, improving on the former ones. Moffat had the Time Angels, Parasites of the Air, and the Quiet. Plus River Song.

spoilers )

I actually liked the plot of this one better than the fiftieth anniversary special plot with all the cameos - which didn't make much sense. Also, this is one of my favorite versions of the Master.

I'm a bit leery of RT Davies taking over the mantle again - because his plots don't always make sense. OTOH, they tend to, on the average, make more sense than Chinball's.

I hope he hires some good writers and doesn't keep the previous crew.

Henry Cavill departs the Witcher in S4 - handing the character over to Liam Helmsworth

I'm not sure how that will work - the two actors look nothing alike. And Cavill is bigger.

Also...

Cavill is apparently returning to the role of Superman. So I'm guessing WB gave up on the Black Superman Movie they were flirting with?

Hmmm...turns out that I'm wrong. They are still pursuing it.

Black Superman Reboot Development

J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Superman reboot is reportedly still in active development at Warner Bros. Discovery. The DC brand has had a big shake-up in 2022 as Warner Bros. Discovery completed its massive merger earlier this year. On the small screen, The CW lost multiple DC TV shows as the network is getting a new majority stake owner. Over on the cinematic side for DC, Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the Batgirl movie despite the film having already finished principal photography in late March.

It's not clear, but the two people helming it do have some clout, and I don't see WB backing off a project they helm quickly. Also DC likes to do AU verses and has for some time, plus comics lend themselves to it.
