Jan. 16th, 2024 08:28 pm1. What is your current go-to song to dance to when nobody is around?
It's the End of the World as We Know It...and I feel fine.
2. What does it mean to "live a good life" in your opinion?
To be peaceful, kind, see trees, and not worry about having a home, food, shelter, people who love you, transportation and health.
3. What's something that when you were learning it, you thought you'd never use it, but in reality, you ended up using it a lot?
Sigh. Algebra.
4. If you had to choose, would you rather be too hot or too cold?
Too cold. But that's only because I'm always hot, and well you can cover up for cold.
5. How well do you trust your gut feelings?
Better than most.

I like memes that don't require pithy and verbose answers or much thought, apparently.
I bought a sock darning kit - because I'm tired of throwing out socks, wearing socks with holes in the bottom, and constantly hunting for new ones. I didn't learn how to darn socks - because my mother never did it. She just threw out the socks and bought new ones. I come by my lack of domestic skills naturally.
Oh, I was discussing laundry with mother - and discovered that my maternal grandmother (or mother's mother) didn't own a washer and dryer until after my grandfather died and she was well into her seventies.
Me: What did she do -
Mother: she sent it out to be done. We'd get it back in either a bag or packages wrapped in brown paper. At one point there was a laundromat behind us and she did it there. But usually she just sent it out - because she didn't have the time to go to the laundromat.
ME: Well that explains a lot - like why she insisted on doing my laundry herself and refused to let me do it. She seemed like doing it. Probably just loved using her own washer and dryer and hanging it up on her own line. My brother was critical of me letting her do it - and I told her, and she said, "He doesn't understand our relationship. Ignore him. It's not his business. We're doing just fine."
Mother: That sounds like her.
I did laundry today. It was lovely - no one was in the basement. Also I threw out several pairs of underwear which had holes in them. (I have plenty this was no loss. And long overdo.) It was just me, the clothes, the washing machines, and lots and lots of books. Apparently I'm not the only one who has deposited books in the basement. They were all neatly put away lining various bookshelves. We have own personal library in the basement.
It's not organized or anything, but it is there.
I also made my bed up clean, and cleaned part of the bathroom, and cleared out and arranged the underwear drawer. Plus? I finished revising that annoying chapter that had to be completely re-written and I've not decided whether or not I'll keep. Right now, I am.
So, accomplished?
On television? I fell asleep during the second episode of Echo. I'm thinking this series may not be for me. I don't really like Echo - she just looks pissed all the time, and she's written as an anti-hero. I did find her interesting in Hawkeye- but her story isn't being executed well, so it's not holding my interest. I may come back to it at some point, I don't know.
Still enjoying Slow Horses - it's suspenseful, interesting, and mildly amusing. Also well acted and written.
Back to work tomorrow - not looking forward to it. A little edgy about it. I am uncertain as to where its headed. I really am hoping for a new manager, as in Breaking Bad, and ditching BYT entirely. But it's not clear yet if or when that's happening. Or if we'll get someone worse.
