This and that...and the other thing...
Nov. 7th, 2024 09:11 pm1. I worry about my niece. She was almost in tears talking to my mother last night on the phone. Currently she's writing a policy paper on environmental matters for the Montana State Legislature. But she worries - no federal money will go towards our parks, will she be able to still get summer job and everyone in her program, worries as well.
It makes me angry. And I need to sleep tonight. The difficulty with sleep is the more you want to sleep - the less you can sleep. And if you panic, forget about it.
[I've deleted so many cries of rage...you've no idea.]
2. Sigh, I got fooled by a fake ad on FB for Torchwood : Rogues - with John Barrowman, Jonathon Groff, and Gwen...
Apparently Barrowman found it and...
"John Barrowman MBE
johnbarrowman
This is not real as I have been effectively blacklisted from anything #BBC and #Torchwood or #DoctorWho . If you come and see my new show #laidbare all is explained.

johnbarrowman was just scrolling FB and saw an ad for Torchwood Rogues - Nov 8th.
I hadn’t hear a word about it until today! Super stoked!"
It took me a while and some reading to remember why he had been blacklisted. [Basically for doing what David Boreanze had been doing on the sets of Angel and Bones. ( hide your eyes ) But you know US vs. UK, and all that.]
It does explain why they did not get Barrowman and instead created a new character - played by Jonathon Groff.
3. I've been having issues getting into books lately, Reading Slump From Hell continues - not helped by the US election from hell. (I loved Kamala, she was my pick for President. I liked her better than anyone else. I agree with her platform, she worked for me. I will never ever forgive the American people for picking that piece of shit instead. I desperately want to punch them all in the nose, but honestly - I can't go around punching people in the nose. It would also hurt me, after a bit. Probably break my own hand.)
At any rate...the current one is a comical haunted house novel, entitled The September House - about a woman who moves into a haunted house with her husband. He takes off. But she loves the house (not the hauntings) and has never really had a home - so refuses to leave. It's told in first person, and the narrator is very snarky and kind of fun. It's my sense of humor - so it works for me.
I gave up on Withered Hill - pretty much around the time they bled the protagonist's ex-boyfriend like a pig for the slaughter. I thought, eh, no, I see where this going, and just no. Plus it was slow-going. I was only 32% through it and I kept thinking it should be half-way over by now.
Also gave up on Live Long Evil, which I might return too? Don't know. But it's very YA, and kind of paint-by-numberish. So..not sure I'm the right demo?
4. More success on TV front...
* Finished Agatha All the Way - which while more entertaining than Loki and Secret Wars (kind of hard not to be, Secret Wars was horrible), it doesn't quite hold together? There's a few clunky plot holes? And I didn't find Billy compelling - that kid has a "gee-whiz" expression of perpetual bewilderment pasted on his face throughout, it never changes.
That said, I loved the chemistry of Rio/Agatha, but there's a few things about that relationship that don't entirely make sense either?
It's also slow in places, and kind of plodding. The best part of it - is the back stories on the Ballad of the Witches Road, which is the ear worm song to end ear worms.
Damn, it's in my head again.
* Started Slow Horses on Apple - eh, the first three seasons are more gripping. But I've admittedly been distracted. It's a British spy series - lots of fun. Or rather a British down on your luck spy series.
Think Smiley overseeing a bunch of loser spies...and you got it.
5. Almost forgot? Ao3 sent me an email informing me that it had changed its terms again, and it wanted me to okay them - if I was to continue using their service. (I'm not, I'm just leaving what was already posted, because it's too time consuming to remove all of it.) Apparently they aren't massively changing anything, but they are changing a few things - it's just not clear from the post, exactly what. Ao3 is a crappy business model - and everything they've done is exactly what you don't do while running this kind of site. I walked away, don't care.
