First day back at work not as stressful as I feared. Also have a bit of respiratory ailment that may or may not be allergy related. Doctor or allergist? Maybe both? Don't want to see either...but over the holidays learned sisinlaws mom had stage 4 lung cancer and has maybe a year to live. Outside of shortness of breath there were no real symptoms or so she claims. She also refuses to get insurance, claiming it's cheaper without it.

Outside of my cousin who thought the season finale of Dexter was awesome....and one online friend who liked it, everyone else I know of...hated S6. Making me think I should skip and just rent Homeland instead.

I'm sure you know that I liked 'Dexter' (so did [livejournal.com profile] ishtar79) Season 6, primarily because of Deb's character growth (no spoilers, but I think you would appreciate that as much as I did) and because of a theme of religion/faith/redemption which added some interest (to me).

So I wouldn't recommend buying it but maybe renting it?

Of course I've heard people rave about 'Homeland' and I haven't tried that yet...
I'm still slogging through the first season of 'The Wire'.

It's worth keeping in mind the people raving about Homeland are the same ones who raved about The Wire and I suspect love it for the same reasons.
You REALLY have to be in the right mood/frame of mind for both. Both are violent, intense, and dark. Tightly written. With dialogue you have to follow really closely. I could not watch the Wire right now. And it took me a while to get in the right frame of mind for it. It wasn't until the last three episodes of S1 that it really took off.

Dexter...from what I understand it depends on how people related to the whole religion storyline and Deb storyline. Most of the people who hated S6 seem to like the Deb storyline well enough, but hated certain plot twists. The fact they hated S5 as well...possibly means I'll agree with them, since I disliked S5. (My least favorite seasons were S3 and S5, also got bogged down in S1...and S2. S4 was quite good though.)

I'd say I liked S1 and 4 the most...
and I enjoyed 5 and 6 okay... (parts of both I enjoyed a lot)
2 was tiresome and 3 almost made me quit watching, but knowing John Lithgow was going to be in S4 made me keep going.

And I have quite a bit of curiosity about S 7 which I think will be the last (will they put Dexter to death or let him escape?)
