Got up at 5:45 am, looked out the window - to what was mostly blizzard conditions - and flipped on the news - discovering that there were switch problems causing delays on the G, the roads while clearing were slippery and it was bitterly cold. Plus there was a second front expected this afternoon, which would dump even more snow on the area. In the shower, I decided that it would be really stupid to walk to the subway, in my sneakers, air cast, cane, in blizzard conditions and potentially long waits, then the two -three blocks over icy sidewalks to the LIRR, then up the six blocks in Jamaica, over icy sidewalks - considering I sprained my ankle in Jamaica without any ice on the sidewalks whatsoever. Granted could try a car service - but the roads are not safe, traffic is congested, and they are telling people to stay home or take public transit.

So, I wimped out and called in sick around 6:30 am, then went back to bed. Was hard enough just walking about yesterday with no snow on the ground, and no snow falling. Had to ice my knee and ankle for twenty minutes. I'll attempt it tomorrow, when the sidewalks have been shoveled. It'll be bad, but not impossible like today.

We currently have 7 inches, with an expected 10-12 inches in some areas. Gotta love March.
Have decided to celebrate my birthday in May from now on.

don't you wish they had snow days for grown ups?
Stay warm!
Of course I'm staying indoors today even though we are only having a downpour/rain storm... but it is a fairly intense rain storm!

I really do. It would make life so much easier. But the Railroad shuts down for no one. It's 24/7 rain/snow/blackouts... Apparently when the blackout happened - they still made people come in, even though no one could do anything and coming to work was hazardous to say the least.

So, today, I took a sick day. If it weren't for the sprained ankle and bummed up knee - I'd have gone to work. I wanted to go. Fully intended on it. Even got up bright and early to do so. But decided that I did not want to risk tripping or falling or jarring the ankle and knee. People at work - probably would have told me to stay home today if they could. It does put my projects in jeopardy of being late. I had a couple of deadlines I desperately wanted to meet today - but I have a feeling the storm would have put a halt on that anyhow.

Having rain out there, eh? Not sure which is worse, rain or snow? Thinking snow - since it sticks around longer. But thunderstorms result in mud-slides and massive flooding, not to mention electrical outtages, so maybe rain.

oh I definitely think that snow is way worse, it is heavy and hard to clear, it clings to the car so you have to keep digging and wiping and de-frosting!
Rain is wet, and often comes with winds which reduce visibility, and here it comes with dense fog (which REALLY stops all visibility: according to one statistic fog causes more traffic accidents than snow or ice!), but at least it doesn't need to be shoveled, and you don't have to salt the streets!

But you're right, I'm not even counting the mud slides and floods and power outages! I shouldn't complain though, we desperately need the rain, the Governator had already started restricting water use, and the water companies have already raised prices, because the reservoirs are all so low.

I'd still rather have rain than snow, any day!
