Hee. Didn't know you had it in the UK.

US Comic Relief dates back to 1990s, I think. Started with Billy Crystal, Whoopie Goldberg and Robin Williams - to help the homeless, then branched out for Haiti and Katrina.

Comic Relief was founded in the UK in 1985 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and Alexander Mendis in response to famine in Ethiopia, and - inspired by it - the US version was founded the next year. :)
