Apparently there's an app for MyFitnessPal that I need to figure out. Since I don't use it on my computer. I suck at tracking things personally - which may or may not be work related. That was my problem with Weight Watchers...I lacked the discipline to track things.

Also have decided that I'm addicted to sweets...as in york peppermint patties, chocolate, ice cream, and wine. Must stop. It's not good for me. Broke my promise to myself today and bought chocolate (RitterSport coconut/milk chocolate bar), Talenti's chocolate and Caribbean Coconut Gelato Bars, wine and Jenni's Chamoile ice creame. Ate a quarter of the chocolate, one Talenti Bar, and two glasses of wine. I never going to lose weight at this rate.

Frustration and depression lead to eating/craving the wrong things and making the whole thing even worse.

Plus increased irritability. Sugar is indeed the root of all evil. Unfortunately it's also more addictive than crack. Not that I would know...never done crack. Have enough issues with being wired.

I've been doing MyFitnessPal for about 8 months. Have lost 40+lbs.

I don't do it at the default settings though. You can customize it to whatever settings you want (I have my carbs set at 103 grams and calculated my protein by figuring out what I should weigh and multiplying it by .7 to find I'm supposed to have something like 115g protein (not that I ever manage to eat that much protein. I refuse to resort to protein powder or protein bars. If I can't get it eating food, then I figure I don't need it.) I do let MFP figure out my target calories though . Currently I'm supposed to have 1640 per day if I don't exercise. (When you exercise you are given extra calories)

Ack.

There must be an easier way?

I suspect that if there were a simple solution, someone would've gotten rich off of it by now. :)

I tend to think you have to play around a little and see what works for your own body. Something like MFP is helpful inasmuch as it actually tracks so many things and provides info (plus... it's free, so there's that. :)

I have found that since I got my juicer and have been using it regularly I've been able to cut back on Coke and other sweets. I think there's enough sugar in the juice - even using Granny Smith apples and upping the veg to fruit ratio - that it satisfies the craving. I'm not kidding myself that it's less sugar but it's certainly a healthier sugar.

Except aren't you are reducing the fiber - apples are a great source of fiber, and increasing the sugar content...by juicing?

That said, it's definitely healthier than eating york peppermint patties or drinking a glass of wine.

It's not a meal replacement, it's a snack replacement!

You know, I was going to suggest after reading your previous post re: needing a vacation that the area I live in would make a pleasant place for that, but on the other hand, the area that I live in is also the snack food and candy center of the country in the opinion of many, and they have the stats to back it up, I believe.

After all, the York Peppermint Patty was created only about 30 miles to the west of me, in York, PA. Ownership of the brand eventually passed to Hershey Foods, which is-- about 30 miles to the west of me.

Oh, dear...

Ah, I've been to York, Pa. A long long time ago. Spent my childhood in Chester County, PA - in West Chester, near Exton. Went to Hershey Park and Dutch Wonderland quite a bit as a kid.

Sugar (processed) is very addictive. I tend to eat more during the holidays, so find myself having to purge it out of my diet for about a month afterwards. You also have to be careful with all of the sugar subs; 1) they are so sweet, they make you want sweetness more and 2) studies recently are showing that they are even worse in preventing weight loss.

Alcohol is a hard one for me, but (most of the time) I manage to only have it on Saturday and Sunday.

I have used Livestrong for the past 3 years (I used another program before that.) The only issue I have is having to put in recipes, since I cook 6-7 days a week. After 3 years, I have a bunch in there already, but still ending putting in 2-3 per week.

I'm the opposite on alcohol - I drink a glass after a difficult day of work, to unwind. While rarely drinking on weekends.

My difficulty with the tracking programs is...I can't eat any of the prepared foods or processed foods, so have to put my own recipes into it.
Also gluten-free items. So it is more grating than for someone who already has all the items in the program. Fitness Pal was actually easier to use than Weight Watchers - which drove me nuts, even though it has nice ego boosters.

For me...I'm addicted to the following sugary things: 1) chocolate (york peppermint patties, reeses peanut butter cups, chocolate bars, or milk chocolate), 2) ice cream, 3)alcohol.

Outside of that...it's not a problem. I don't like non-chocolate candy, can't stand soda, and can't eat baked goods due to the gluten-intolerance. Gluten-Free baked goods are higher in sugar content and also I've found not as good. Pies, cakes, donuts, cupcakes, cookies - tend to be out, because the gluten-free version is either time-consuming and a pain to make (you need a bigger kitchen and more cabinet/freezer space than I have available) or just not that good.

And I tend to binge.
