1. I've archived all the worthy essay, fanfiction, meta, review posts that could possibly fit into Archive of Our Own (which has been broadened a bit to allow for items that fit "no fandom") from 2003-2005. (I have over 19 years worth of posts to skim through, and a lot are either already there or don't work and can't be archived. I'm not archiving the pandemic posts for example - that wouldn't work at all.) I won't put combined meta reviews (ie. posts with multiple television show and movie reviews on it or long personal ramblings or personal posts or work related posts or family related posts or photo montages.) Have to draw the line somewhere. I put several fandom meta posts on it, and one on the Zimbardo Prison Study (I was taking a social psychology course in 2005 due to abject boredom.)

And oh dear god, I was a huge drama queen in the early 00s on the net. I kept threatening to delete the journal. (I deleted a couple of those posts along with a meme that provided far too much personal information.) It was silly. I never did of course. (Ironic too, considering we all deleted our lj's after moving them here, some folks just did it outright and didn't move them at all. A lot of the people I was arguing with and interacting with on LJ are long-gone. I have no clue what happened to most of them, others I've parted ways with - but do know where they are.) Meditation really helps stop that silliness. I also cared what people thought back then - don't now. And wanted some sort of validation - don't require it at all now. Don't care. Again meditation - or mindfulness meditation really helps shut up the stupid ego or those negative thought loops.

I didn't realize how much I'd actually changed emotionally, mentally, physically and as a person until I scanned those old posts.

I wonder if I re-watched Buffy and Angel, Farscape, BSG, Lost, etc now - what I'd think of them? Would I be a fan? Haven't watched any of them in over ten-fifteen years. And I'm not really fannish about anything at the moment. I'm playing with Soap Twitter and Soap FB, but I'm not a fan. I watch mainly for mother - I'd stop if she did. And mildly curious to see what happens to the characters.

2. Television..

* Brother recommends - "Sex Pistols" on Hulu, a drama by Danny Boyle. (So may try it. It has ads plastered all over the subways. And on television. But I thought it was a documentary - apparently it's not.)

* Chidi recommends "Severance" - tried three - four episodes and I agree with my brother, it's a touch "overwrought" for me. And depressing. Biting Satire, but American Biting Satire tends to be depressing. Also conspiracy's related to a workplace, I can do without right now.

* Still watching the Essex Serpent - meant to watch it after dark tonight, because it's impossible to see during daylight hours. But I lost track of time - archiving. I've mixed feelings about it - but I also had mixed feelings about the book. It gets a little preachy on the gender/class issues but Victorian related novels often do.

* Tried Obi-Wan on Disney Plus - it's better than I expected. Very much geared towards a family audience, not an adult audience, which in retrospect may be the problem with all of the Star Wars films and series? Star Trek is geared towards adults, and Star Wars towards kids, and well that's kind of problematic in a way?

Also Star Wars is set up as old school serial action drama - a blend of WWII movies and Westerns, as space opera. It's not really science fiction, it has more of a fantastical element to it. And leans heavy on Western motifs.

I did like Ewan McCregor as Obi-Wan, and he works in this as well. But the pacing could be better, and the supporting cast is a touch stiff. As is the writing - which unfortunately is par for the course for Star Wars. (It never did have the best writing in the world. I'm a long-term fan, and even I can admit that.)

* Need to go back to Picard - since that held my interest last weekend.

3.God, I'm tired. I'm going to bed. Been sleeping poorly. I blame digestive issues. But I ate less gassy items today. And ice cream earlier. So that should help.

(I do Breyers - which is basically the same as homemade, no additives, no preservatives, just orangic milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla. I am ridiculously picky about Ice Cream - also I can't have the cheap brands like Edy's and Turkey Hill - they have too many additives, so I avoid. But I'm off the kick - so won't buy more after this. Ice cream tends to give me gas. As do all dairy products. Also it glues up the digestive system. Dairy is not our friend.)

Yes, that's a good way to capture it: Star Trek does some actual science fiction, Star Wars is absolutely more fantastical instead.

The little I know about the Sex Pistols thing tells me there's at least some effort to recreate the rise and fall using modern-day actors who had to learn to be a band together.

I've occasionally deleted journals, mostly when I needed to get out from under the weight of what had past. E.g., I had many years on LJ but now don't.

I was a huge drama queen

Don't worry about it. Some threatened to delete everything, a few did it, most eventually came back. Kind of a stage some people needed to get through?

Star Trek is geared towards adults, and Star Wars towards kids, and well that's kind of problematic in a way?

It's a fair assessment. Roddenberry wanted to push his personal philosophy, Lucas wanted to just tell his fantasy. S Trek started off preachy (still often is) eventually got into some genuine Sci-Fi with occasional banal/juvenile material, and S Wars started a rollicking, but coherent space opera and drifted off into absurdity.

Breyers is easily the best commercial brand out there. As you said, pure ingredients, no additives, a clean, pure taste. It's the only brand of vanilla that truly satisfies this chocoholic.

I do enjoy Edy's (on occasion) if I want to enjoy something decadent with chocolate chunks and nuts. (I also have a love of Good Humor chocolate eclair bars carried over from childhood.)

My wife loves Häagen-Dazs pints with lots of fruit flavors.

I could take or leave Turkey Hill or Blue Bunny. (Adequate, in a pinch.) If we want to splurge as a family, we'll head over to Cold Stone Creamery and buy a variety six-pack of Flying Saucer type ice cream cookie sandwiches (with sprinkles).

You know...before typing this, I had no idea I had such specific tastes in ice cream.

Agree on Breyers being best in vanilla of what's out there now. Turkey Hill's standard line I find to be quite good overall for a very modestly priced product, and at least around here, it's regularly on sale someplace, cheaper yet. Their premium (and pricier) line, the "Simply Natural" series, is a more purist variety, without the additives found in the regular line. I mentioned the "Salted Caramel" variety in another post here, and I think it's truly magnificent, easily a top pick for me.

Other faves-- Ben & Jerry's "Chunky Monkey" and "Cherry Garcia", and Haagen-Dazs' "Rum Raisin"
